  • The Runabout was a model of landspeeder produced by Czerka Corporation during the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire.
  • A runabout was a small warp-capable vessel, similar to a shuttlecraft, but providing for more interior space and crew amenities for extended interstellar trips. The Danube Class of starship were refered to as runabouts.
  • Likes to watch things blow up -- the bigger the explosion the better. Uses parked cars and gas station fuel pumps for target practice. Usually very busy as a Battlecharger, but terrified of boredom. Transforms into .5 seconds. Maximum speed 300 km/h. Range: 900 km. Has high-energy particle beam rifle. Easily distracted by a beautiful car - because he wants to destroy it, not admire it.
(VOY: "Non Sequitur")
  • The Danube Class Runabout is available for purchase at Earth Spacedock, Deep Space 9 in the shipyard.
  • Runabouts were armed well enough to defend themselves against similarly sized attackers and for use in customs enforcement, but were no match for full-size warships under most circumstances. They were typically assigned to space stations or starships as auxiliary craft. The Cardassian Union copied the design and produced their own version in the early 2370s. Starfleet normally named runabouts after rivers on Federation planets.
  • Runabout is a talker and an almost logically-minded Decepticon, which makes him extremely dangerous since his specialty is destruction. He is the kind to plan out the basic details of his demolitions to make the final destruction even more magnificent than a mere explosion would cause, but he is not above creating a bit of spontaneous vandalism in boredom--even within the Decepticon base. His alt-mode is a Cybertronian armored racecar, mostly used to force other Cybertronians off the road. His main weapon is a particle beam rifle. He has no physical weaknesses, though he seems to have a fear of his own death.
  • Generic term for short-range Federation starships. The Danube-class Runabouts were introduced in DS9's first season as a way to get the characters off the station for adventures, and later seen in TNG. These vesseles are clunky, plain, and utilitarian ... and proud of it. Resembling enlarged shuttlecraft, these ships have a short-range two person transporter and minimal living accomodations.
  • The Federation Starfleet Danube-class of starships were refered to as runabouts. (DS9 episode: "Hippocratic Oath") A type of runabout was assigned to the USS Voyager. (VOY novel: Cybersong) The Cardassians also operated runabouts, such as the defense runabout. (DS9 novelization: The Way of the Warrior) By 2409 the Romulans had their own model of runabout, the Kestrel-class. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)

  • A runabout is a versatile space-faring, warp-capable vessel larger than a shuttlecraft and smaller than a starship. Like shuttlecraft, runabouts can sometimes be assigned to starships or space stations as secondary craft. Unlike shuttlecraft, runabouts usually have their own unique registry. Starfleet used several types of runabouts throughout its history, including the Danube class. (DS9: "Emissary", et al) The Danube class consisted of a modular design and was originally capable of warp 5. (DS9: "Dax")
  • Runabout is not the brains of the Battlechargers (they're both pretty much dim-bulbs), but he is much calmer and certainly more articulate than Runamuck, and his presence helps keep the latter's cross-wired mind on task. That said, Runabout usually joins in with whatever mad ideas Runamuck comes up with, just to keep from being bored. Runabout is very susceptible to boredom. French name (Canada): Rôdo Italian name: Diablo
  • Runabout likes to watch things blow up; the bigger the explosion, the more he enjoys it. If he's not busy hunting Autobots, he'll pass his free time by using parked cars for target practice or igniting fuel pumps at a gas station. A good-sized fireball never fails to bring a mischievous smile to his face. Seemingly driven by an unending supply of evil energy, he avoids even the briefest lulls in activity as if he's terrified that boredom might fatally infect him. As a Battlecharger, Runabout gets more than enough opportunity to stay busy, but he worries about what he'll do with himself after he finishes blowing up all the Autobots, cars, and gas stations on Earth. He calculates at the rate he's going he'll have to find a new sport within two years.
  • The Danube-class of runabouts entered service in 2368, with many being assigned to Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Paradise") While attending the Academy, Ensign Nog had heard of instances of cadets commanding a runabout or a shuttle as a Training vessel, but never a starship, after discovering, in 2374, that the USS Valiant served as a training vessel for Red Squad cadets. (DS9: "Valiant") In an alternate timeline, the Yellowstone-class of runabouts was introduced in 2372. It featured a tetryon plasma drive system. (VOY: "Non Sequitur")

That said, Runabout usually joins in with whatever mad ideas Runamuck comes up with, just to keep from being bored. Runabout is very susceptible to boredom. Besides, Runabout loves a good wreck just as well as his crazy comrade, but it's not because he craves to create wreckage -- he simply wishes to destroy, and enjoys the spectacle of chaos and big fiery explosions. To help create these he has a particle beam rifle that shoots a stream of heavy and energetic neutrons. Unfortunately, he craves destruction so much that it continually distracts him from his assigned duties. Runabout is a little faster than Runamuck, with a 185 MPH top speed, but can only go about 550 miles. He is equally able to transform quickly, taking about .4 seconds to do so. Also like his partner, he is not averse to breaking windows or draping cylinder-wiping paper over the enemy base, or other puerile acts of vandalism. But he uses bigger words when doing so. He calculates at the rate he's going he'll have to find a new sport within two years. In Lotus Turbo Esprit sports car mode, Runabout has a maximum speed of 185 mph and a range of 550 miles. He can transform to robot mode in .4 seconds. He uses a particle beam rifle that shoots a high-energy beam of neutrons with devastating results. Runabout's attention turns to beautiful cars like a young man's turns to beautiful women. In Runabout's case though, the more beautiful the car, the more he craves to destroy it. This often distracts him from his true mission and leaves him vulnerable to attack.
