So besorgte er mit großer Gewissenhaftigkeit Athelasblätter (Königskraut), die zur Heilung des Schwarzen Atems oder von Verletzungen durch Morgulklingen unverzichtbar waren. Später musste er Minas Tirith dann doch verlassen. Sein Vater war zum Ersten Hauptmann der Weißen Schar (Leibwache des Fürsten von Ithilien, zu dieser Zeit, nach dem Ringkrieg, war dies Faramir) ernannt worden und aufgrund der Residenzpflicht des Vaters, zog die ganze Familie nach Ithilien um.
