Synopsis
  • Replikon has spent more than a week in the Star City Library learning about Earth's atmosphere and its inhabitants. He wants to move his unborn children to a safer planet. Still unhatched from their eggs, they sit in wait on their home-world for their father. When he leaves the library, he meets with Carol Ferris who has promised to show him the town. After their date, he returns to an earlier site, a chemical plant, and decides to alter the Earth's physical conditions to that of his home-world. He punctures a hole in a storage tank which releases a fluorocarbon gas, however, Green Lantern arrives and contains the gas and sends it into space. Replikon attacks him and Green Lantern fakes unconsciousness. After his foe flies off, Lantern secretly follows him and sees him change back into Andre's human form. Green Lantern then seeks out Dinah and Ollie and they decide to set a trap, but they need Carol to lure him into it. Since she has developed feelings for Andre, she reluctantly agrees and escorts him to an abandoned area. Black Canary and Green Arrow attack, keeping Replikon on the defensive. Green Lantern also attacks and drives him into a lead cylinder which Replikon cannot phase through. Green Lantern then seals the cylinder and flies him back to the alien's home-world, leaving him to die with his unborn children. When Green Lantern sees Carol again, she is very upset and no longer wants to be with "the hero." She says goodbye, and walks off.
  • An unknown foe is siphoning Alan Scott's power from his ring. By following the "emerald energy" he stumbles onto a secret tong meeting of The Green Dragon. There, he is caught by surprise and knocked out. With Green Lantern sprawled on the floor, and unconscious, a henchman reaches for the ring hoping to claim its power, however, when he wears the ring, he burns to death within a green flame. The ring cannot be worn by those who are consciously evil. Groggy, Green Lantern reclaims the ring and escapes. The next day he snoops around Chinatown as Alan and meets Lo-Lanke, a woman who witnessed him transforming back to his secret identity. She tells him of Lord Chang - the man who initially fashioned the Green Flame into a lantern and was killed fulfilling the first part of its prophecy. Lo-Lanke states that it was actually Chang's servant who died. Chang has continued to hold a piece of the original Green Flame rock, which has extended his life for centuries. Knowing that Green Lantern was a threat to him, he sought him out. As Lo-Lanke finishes her story, Chang suddenly appears and attacks Alan and defeats him. Lo-Lanke takes the ring while Chang creates a pit full of magic flames. Lo-Lanke pushes a now chained Green Lantern into the flaming pit. To be continued...
quotation
  • Chang lived centuries ago! He fashioned the rock into a lantern... but he was killed! And the Green Flame fulfilled its first prophecy with the death of his murders! Later, the Lantern cured an insane man -- gave him a new life! Still later, it fell into my hands, giving me its power!
