  • Alton Jones (August 27, 1941 - ) is a former NASCAR driver from Pleasant Grove, AL. He competed in thirteen Sprint Cup Series events in his career, earning four top-tens. Jones' debut came in 1970, when he competed at Talladega. Starting 39th in the field of forty, Jones lost his engine late in the event but still finished 24th. Jones didn't return to the schedule until 1973, competing in a five-race schedule. It was a tough start to the year for Jones, failing to finish any better than 26th in his first three starts of the year thanks to three DNFs. But after Jones made a team change, he ended the year solidly - a 19th at Talladega and a 9th at Nashville. Jones' next returned to the sport in 1974, with his five-race deal leaving him a 49th place finish in points. The year again proved to be a mixed bag for Jones, who earned two DNFs but also two top-tens. Jones did overcome those DNFs with the finishes, including a 9th place run at Bristol and a career-best 5th at Nashville. Finally, Jones closed out his career in 1975, racing in both Nashville events. It was a good choice for Jones, who finished 6th in the spring event and twelvth in the June event, his career finale.
