rdfs:comment | - Species 8472 was the Borg designation for a non-humanoid species native to a dimension called fluidic space, accessible through quantum singularities. Their highly developed biology and organic technology rendered them tactically superior even to the Borg, who considered them the "apex of biological evolution". (VOY: "Scorpion", "Scorpion, Part II")
- "Species 8472" was the Borg designation for an alien race otherwise known as the Undine, inhabiting a dimension known as "fluidic space". The USS Voyager came into contact with this species in the 2370s, during a conflict between them and the Borg in the Delta Quadrant. Of all the races known to Starfleet during the Borg's campaigns to assimilate other sentients, Species 8472 proved to be one of the toughest, successfully resisting assimilation and inflicting major damage to Borg ships and resources. (VOY: "Scorpion", "Scorpion, Part II")
- Species 8472 (their Borg designation) are tripedal, around three meters tall, and extremely muscular.
- Unfortunately Species 8472 were also originally extremely hostile towards non-Borg species as well and it was not until later in the series that this dangerous species finally showed signs of becoming benign towards the Federation. In the MMO video game, Star Trek Online, it's revealed that the race's true name is The Undine and they have renewed hostility with the life-forms of our galaxy due to the manipulation of the Iconians.
