After the final death of Palpatine, Talinin found out about his plan to rule a "Dark Empire" solely with the dark side, something that made him reassess his views of the dead Emperor. After that, he joined the Imperial Remnant of Gilad Pellaeon in 12 ABY. Due to his position and rank, Talinin was made a combat instructor at the Academy of Bastion, which was created as a replacement to the Carida Imperial Military Academy (since it was destroyed, along with Carida itself). However, since they were also in need of elite troops, Talinin was later made a storm commando, one of the few in the Remnant. Promoted to colonel, he rose to be the head of the Remnant's storm commandos.
