  • Istanbul is Europe's most populous city and Turkey's cultural and financial center. The city covers 27 districts of the Istanbul province. It is located on the Bosphorus Strait and encompasses the natural harbor known as the Golden Horn, in the northwest of the country. In 1939 American adventurer Tex Thompson traveled to Istanbul at the behest of the Prime Minister of Turkey. Disguising himself as a Turk, Tex teamed up with a local guide named Ali-Baba and together they investigated a sabotage ring responsible for attacking the Turkish naval fleet. During this adventure, Tex also had a rematch with his old foe the Gorrah. The Gorrah captured Tex and his ally Bob Daley and used hypnosis on them in an effort to ascertain information regarding the naval fleet. Tex was unaffected, but pretended to be under the Gorrah's control so that he could bait him into a trap. Refusing to be taken alive, the Gorrah faked his own death and went into hiding.

  • This is an ancient city of many names. To the Greeks it was Byzantium (its original name). To the Romans it was Constantinople. To the Northmen who served as Hired Axes it was Miklagard. And to the Turks who now possess it, it is Istanbul. It was built on the isthmus between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean; legend has it that its first settlers saw a previous settlement nearby and were amazed at how greatly they missed the boat. Istanbul does indeed have an ideal site being at the crossroads of several travel routes; indeed in some ways it is too ideal: every prince and his cousin wanted this city and it has endured seventeen sieges in it's history. Fortunately it's fortifications were a wonder of Medieval military architecture being something of a man-made cliff of insanity, so the city has endured only two sacks; the Fourth Crusade, and the Ottoman Conquest in 1453. This city is also proverbial for its Gambit Pileups and is the only city in the world to actually be an adjective for such things, as it is after all, very "byzantine" . This tradition continued into modern times and as late as World War II (and no doubt later) it was an important espionage battleground. It is nevertheless the home of some 13.6 million people, being the third-largest majority-Muslim metropolitan area in the world (after Cairo). After some years in obscurity Byzantium became the secondary capital of The Roman Empire because of the growing importance of the eastern parts. Constantine the Great made it his main capital and named it after himself with the typical humility of Emperors. When Rome fell, Constantinople survived as a sort of Government in Exile of The Roman Empire known today as the Byzantine Empire. By virtue of the professionalism of its soldiers and the cunning of its rulers it was able to survive in this capacity for about 800 years after the fall of Rome being finally conquered by the Ottomans in 1453. This remained the capital of the Ottoman Empire until its collapse in World War I when the City was temporarily occupied by Allied forces. It was reclaimed by Turkey afterwards, which holds it to this day. Another interesting issue is that Istanbul acts as the cork in the bottle of the Black Sea; no shipping can get in or out without Turkey's permission. This automatically prevents Russia from becoming a threat to major sea powers and in doing so has historically ensured the protection of same. This was part of the reason for British and French intervention in the Crimean War. Istanbul is a multi-ethnic city with groups from all over the area having residence there. It's one of the few places in Turkey that still have an Armenian population, and Kurds and Greeks also maintain a presence as well. It is a noted tourist attraction with such architectural wonders as the Blue Mosque, the Topkapi Palace and so on. "Stamboli" cooking is well noted and was once considered on a par with French. Much of the more high end dishes in Istanbul descended from the traditions of palace chefs of the days of the Sultans. Fiction: Nonfiction:

When founded it was full of Geeks (coming from the ancient "Greek" meaning "one who plays table top RPGs (obsessively)" so the founder had to return it. Founded again in 1453 by Newton along with the General Relativity, electric vacuum cleaner and disposable dispose, although Leibniz claims otherwise. Sonik II, "the Hedhehog" Pasha was the first mayor of Istanbul to install a subway system in 1843, which consisted of a curiously straight diagonal line that ran for, more or less, a kilometer. The mayor hired 433 moles that worked on "a day's work for a share of moles having laser eye surgery" basis that seemed to work for both parties, and the records state that the subway tunnel was completed in a month. The moles, now equipped with perfect eyesight, went on to become successful assassins; and were key members of the cult that was responsible for the assassination of the Austrian Archiduke, Franz Ferdinand among many. The Triple Entente avenged the moles by starting World War I, killing a lot of people and sabotaging the subway system by having Queen Victoria sit on it. Nobody died. Ist*nbul's ruling system is, although it is located in the Turkish Republic, independent monarchy. Ruled by an evil emperor called Kadir Topbas, an X-Men Talent Academy graduate specializing on architecture. Citizens of Istanbul have been suffering the consequences of his rapid change of ideas, such as, "Let's cover the city with marble!.. No no, wait, make it wood." Istanbul has a fruitful economy; in fact city merchants profit on roadside railings, light fixtures, and manholes that seem to flourish daily on the fertile soil of the city, muuuuch later to be filled by minifigs at night. Contrary to popular belief, there are no mosques in Ist*nbul. Most of them are optical illusions; some of them are decoys with a built-in container that ships the curious mass of tourists to other destinations such as Afghanistan; and the remaining were drawn on walls by the then visiting renaissance artist Wile E. Coyote, and apparently, only Road Runner can enter and pray in them. Coyote entered a decoy mosque later on, and for the rest of his life painted the captivating Afghan scenery. The peak of Topbas' career, and the toughest of decisions has been whether the Bosphorus Bridge should be surrounded by horrendous purple lights at night. Although drivers are left semi-blinded by the sight, the general view looks very European, which leaves any other drawback merely as "no biggies.". To this day, 3 people have died from the ugliness of it. The municipality refuses to speak on the subject. Yet another notable success on the history of Independent Kingdom of Istanbul has been to purchase 5 million dollar worth Hollandese tulips to make the city look better, so people would try eating tulips instead of shooting birds while they're stuck in the traffic for an average of 7 hours. On the other hand, "The Project of Nothing" is still under construction concerning the traffic problem. It is said to be eating a lot of the budget. "What can one do, it's all for us, knowing NothingTM is being done for the people ensures a good night's sleep." says Muhammed Godzilla, a citizen. The current administration is currently putting up a TV-show called "Real Life Monopoly" with the producers of Big Brother where you can buy your own region from the city from the comfort of your couch and TV-set, and later charge real people (citizens!) rent and cause chaos. The pilot episode of this show, graced by the existence of the Prime Minister, RTE, involves a Dubai company purchasing a lot and putting up a spiral twin towers to the horror of a crowd of citizens who have no idea that the peak of the towers have flame throwers that are going to burn them to a crisp (when it is finished). The long-suffering citizens of Istanbul are also signed for another adventure called Gilligan's Island: the Exodus for 2009 in which the people are going to be deported from the city and positioned in a Greco-Turkish island in the Aegean Sea that is inhabited with goats and satyrs. Initial scouting proved that the crime rate in the island is expected to increase to a fascinating percentage of 78%, and the show will end in one 7-month season as the deported mass is anticipated to burn up rapidly.
