- Saeko Bujushima is a high school Kendo Club captain and daughter of world famous martial artist Master Bujushima. After being forced to defend herself one night against an attacker, she discovers a darker side to her. She realized that she enjoys inflicting pain upon others. Saeko's guilt towards these feelings has led her to distance herself from those she cares about. When her school gets infested with zombies, she joins their survival group. There she becomes more and more distraught as the need to fight for her and her friends’ survival allows her sadism to grow and be fulfilled.

- Saeko Busujima is a character in Highschool of the Dead and the secondary female protagonist of the series, after Rei Miyamoto. She is a student at Fujimi High School and a member of the survivor group led by Takashi Komuro and is the daughter of Master Busujima. Back in Fujimi High School, she was in the Third year and was also captain of the Kendo Club. It is shown that Saeko has intimate feelings toward Takashi. Likewise, Takashi shows a level of attraction to Saeko. She is voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro in the Japanese version of the anime and Taylor Hannah in the English version.
