  • Sagat (サガット, Sagatto?, based on Thai สกัด) is a boss character from the early editions of the Street Fighter series of fighting games. He was later turned into a regular, playable character. According to Street Fighter co-creator Hiroshi Matsumoto, Sagat's style was probably modeled after dramatic television kickboxing personalities. It is possible he was named after Sagat Petchyindee, a legendary Thai boxer.
  • Since Street Fighter Alpha, Sagat has been voiced by Shinichirou Miki. In SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom, Sagat was voiced by Kouji Suizu. In the live-action Street Fighter movie, he was portrayed by well-known Native American actor Wes Studi.
  • In 1955 Thailand, Sagat was born. But Thailand was a shithole that needed a new emperor to straighten it out. During the 1970 elections a young Sagat(15) joined in the running. He won over no one's votes until he plowed through the city using "TIGER Muay Thai". It's the same thing as normal Muay Thai except for a couple of super moves where Sagat exclaims the word "TIGER" followed by another word. After threatening to kill the whole country, Sagat was elected Emperor of Thailand. But he later lost his place as emperor in 1975 because his Tiger kitten BooBoo had a cold.
  • Sagat started out in the Street Fighter Series as the final boss of Street Fighter, the first game of the series. According to the storyline, Sagat was beaten by Ryu with a Shoryuken that scarred his chest, which remains as a constant reminder to Sagat through the rest of the series. Sagat's signature moves are his Tiger Shot, Tiger Knee (aka Tiger Crush) and Tiger Uppercut (aka Tiger Blow), and his super special moves are Tiger Cannon (a stronger version of Tiger Shot), Tiger Genocide (a combination of Tiger Knee into one or possibly two Tiger Uppercuts), and Tiger Raid (a combination of kicks followed by a flying kick that sometimes ignites into flames).

He later returned as a boss in Street Fighter II before becoming playable in its update, Street Fighter II: Champion Edition. He is the "Emperor of Muay Thai" and a former member of Shadaloo, where he acted as a personal bodyguard for M. Bison.

Sagat is a very proud fighter. He's very powerful and strong-willed, as well as hard-working; he is dedicated in body and spirit to martial arts life. His uncommon physical appearance makes him menacing, hideous and downright unfriendly at first glance, which holds true to a certain extent.

In contrast to his initially violent and sometimes cruel nature, Sagat appreciates opponents that are worthy and of strong character and greatly despises taking unfair or dishonest advantages in combat. His more honorable traits come to the forefront during his storyline development, and his pride gives way to an honesty of sorts similar to Ryu, his purpose now defined by the "heart of battle".
