  • Image:Break.gif Break (Splash in Japan), described as "eliminate an enemy's bonuses", is a Mercury Support Psynergy that removes the status boosts of the all enemy party members. Break costs 5 Psynergy Points and never fails (Sentinel is the sole exception). It is available to a wide variety of classes, making Break one of the few Psynergies available to all Adepts. It should be noted that Mia, Piers', Rief, and Amiti's default classes, the Water Seer, Mariner, and Aqua Squire Class Series learn this Psynergy. The other class series' that can learn Break are:

  • For a little guy, Break is full of endless and infective enthusiasm. Eager to prove himself and loving to fight, when he first heard that Big Convoy was selected to lead him and his teammates, his first action was to test Big Convoy’s power. He found out the hard way. Though a little rowdy, most of the time his heart is in the right place and he tends to be a big morale booster for his comrades. Break cares about his fellow Maximals and will risk his own existence to keep them safe. He fights with an intense drive for victory as well as a competitive drive against fellow teammate, Cohrada. The two Maximals argue constantly over who’s the stronger soldier.
  • Break is an unofficial term which means to find a way to abuse a card or combination of cards to make them incredibly powerful. For example, upon its release, "Pot of Avarice" was looked down upon by many duelists, as they felt its effect to be more of a hindrance than a help (returning 5 monsters to the deck was considered too steep a price for drawing two cards, "fattening" the deck and thus slowing it down). However, later many duelists began pairing it with "Magical Merchant", making a powerful Deck type and "breaking" the card.
  • A break, sometimes called a coffee break, was a brief period of respite and refreshment during one's workday. In 2265, Lee Kelso came to sickbay during his coffee break to visit a recuperating Gary Mitchell. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before" ) In 2376, after Tuvok located Dala's phony version of the Delta Flyer, Kathryn Janeway told Harry Kim to tell Tom Paris that his coffee break was over. (VOY: "Live Fast and Prosper")
  • Break occurs when a character's bravery points are completely depleted by the use of Brave attacks or Summons. When this occurs, the character will have to wait for their bravery points to recharge over time, or use Brave attacks to recharge the lost points. During this time, HP attacks will deal no damage whatsoever, and will only begin to inflict HP once the bravery points have reached the base value. However, Brave attacks will have a higher chance at inflicting critical hits, boosting the bravery points gained. If you are successful in inflicting Break on an opponent, you will be rewarded with their bravery points, plus the stage bravery. However, the opponent can do the same.

All Brave attacks can inflict Break, as can HP attacks (albeit much harder, unless the HP attack deals a significant amount of Brave damage before the HP damage). Certain summons can also influence Break. Odin and Ultima Weapon can inflict instant Break on an enemy. Odin has a 50% chance of doing so, while Ultima Weapon inflicts Break after a set period of time. Golbez can also inflict instant Break during Ex-Mode, by pressing and holding R + Square to charge his Black Fang spell. It requires some charge up, but if uninterrupted, the foe will be inflicted with Break, and you will be rewarded with stage bravery.

Ideally, this would then cause the enemy fighter to overshoot, thus putting them out of position for an effective follow-through. However, there was still the possibility of the enemy achieving a snap shot—a shot taken in haste as a target passed quickly by one's front. There were other dangers, too, as the breaking craft could, in executing the maneuver, inadvertently put themselves into the sights of the attacking starfighter's wingmate; in addition, breaking too soon or too late also put the pilot at greater risk of being shot down.
