  • Taken from a scroll found underneath an ancient Temple. Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. Thus, the story of Kenshin Senju begins with this philosophy. The Aesir, the species that Kenshin is of, believe in philosophies of reality greatly different than anything of that seen on Earth among mankind; yet at the same time eerily similar to various parts of many different myths. Their mythology, if you will, begins with what they believe about the universe itself. According to the Aesir, the universe that currently exists, was created at the very time that the previous universe ended. In that previous universe, it is unknown of what life (if any) was like; what sorts of properties there was of "nature" according to that universe, and most importantly - how that universe came to be completely destroyed and replaced with a new one. It is believed that at the same moment the first universe ended, the second one began; and it began with what the Aesir call the "Point of Eternity". Humans hesitantly call it the "big bang" and to many different peoples it means many different things. To them, it meant the single point in space time, where all the matter and energy in the current universe was birthed. To help them understand it further, they described it as a waterfall. In their lore, it is commonly referred to as the River of Foundation. They believe all energy and matter was begotten into this universe by this river, that is. With that being said, this river contained within it the rapturous and exuberant first energies that would, when filtered as they traveled through the expanse of space-time, became the common types of energies known to mankind. Filtered further, these energies eventually became the most basic components of physical matter and therefore made up matter itself. However, if one were to drink at the spout what humans only tasted at the bottom of the barrel, unimaginable power awaited. And this is the foundation of the Aesir and their dimension - Thea. There are twelve realms the Aesir divided the universe into, with the twelth being the closest to that River of Foundation. Dimensions and planets closest to that River, were filled with energy and matter at its highest potency; for they drank from the spout of the heavenly energies that the focal point of the universe gushed out at its first emergence. The world they inhabited, Thea, was a dimension. Dimensions being ripples in space time that created alternate "doors" and therefore worlds that existed outside of the normal physical realm. Though it was an astral and metaphysical realm, it had in it very physical and organic aspects. For as it was comprised of various energies from the River of Foundation as well as their physical equivalent; that being elements which comprised the "nature" of Thea. Thus, Thea was as magnificent and terrifying a world and landscape as can be possibly imagined. It had temperatures both hot and cold, that exceeded what was even experienced by stars and planets in lower realms. Each dimension that was closer to the River of Foundation experienced everything about 7x more than the realm below it. Light was brighter in Thea than it was on Earth. Its properties were different as well of course. For what humans and Aesir call "light" is in fact the same thing; but the Aesir have the purest and most original form of the material, while humans experience the greatly watered down version. The same could be said to be true of just about everything else in the experience of both races. The capacity of good and evil of the Aesir was also greater, and their might accompanied that. In Thea, the first beings that were believed to take sentience were the Vanir. These beings were also called the Original Beasts, and were titans of power so great that it was believed they were capable of destroying all life in the universe. They simply had not opponent, nor equal. The Vanir were not beings of evil, but rather were raw constructs of Thea's nature. Entities ruled purely by subconscious instinct, they dominated their world and all species within it as they were able to handle the harsh conditions and even thrive in them, more than any other species that came before them. It came to be at some time unknown that a second mighty race came to be in Thea; these were known as the Aesir. These beings were similar to the titans in terms of their raw power and nature; but vastly different in that they were conscious, sentient, and they were in the likeness of mankind. While the Vanir were monsters of terrifying proportions, the Aesir were god-like heroes of lore, whose power was mighty and organized. The most ancient Aesir tribe desired to be at peace with the Vanir, seeing no reason why the two races could not be at rest with one another. They greatly feared these Vanir, and would keep their dwelling places far from where the knew the Vanir dwelt. It came to be eventually that the Aesir grew in number so great that their leader, Asteroth, desired to have council with the Vanir (if such a thing was possible) in order to see if they could strike a treaty of sorts to ensure the survival and continuation of his species. The Aesir could not grow by sexual or even Asexual reproduction. Rather, they were beings who Thea became "pregnant" and gave birth to via an ancient garden that existed in Thea. It was in this garden that the Aesir were created and born about. They, like humans, began sentience as infants and grew to mature adults. Though this process for the Aesir was vastly different because of their intelligence and physical prowress, their people were indeed like one large family; for they were all children of Thea. Asteroth desired to keep hidden from the Vanir the location of the birthplace of the Aesir, for fear they would destroy it and it would mean the end of the Aesir; who could not reproduce themselves. With that being said, Asteroth came, with his greatest officers, to the Alter of the Vanir. The place where sacrifices had been made by the Aesir and others to these titans in an attempt to appease and beg for protection. Asteroth was greeted by the presence of the mightiest of the Vanir, whose unimaginably large frame blocked out the sky itself as it looked down upon the courageous Aesir. The Aesir did not know if they were understood by the Vanir, but spoke kind words to them, and along with those words offered a great sacrifice. Their words, however, fell on death ears - and that titan would fall upon Asteroth and his soldiers that day, beginning the war of the Aesir and the Vanir. The Vanir hated the Aesir, and from that day forth pursued them in order to destroy them and all their seed from the earth. The garden from which their race was birthed, called Lothlorien, was hidden and guarded by the Aesir, fearful that it should someday be found out by these monsters.
