  • 10/31, or Halloween—traditionally a time to reflect, a time of divination, and a time to honor the ancients. But Phoebe's plans to communicate with her ancestors are cut short when she's recruited to help reunite a star-crossed, magical couple.
  • During Samhain the people of Camelot would prepare a feast to mourn their deceased and those who had departed this life. The feast would be preceded by a speech from the current ruler before a toast. As for the practitioners of the Old Religion, the High Priestesses would gather on the Isle of the Blessed where they would sacrifice a living human to tear the Veil between the worlds of the living and the dead, unleashing evil magical creatures into this universe. The sacrifice would unleash a vast deal of mystical power into the world which sorceresses could tap into for a limited time (The Darkest Hour).

  • Samhain is celebrated October 31st, Halloween. This is the parting from our God, yet knowing that it is only a brief separation as he will be born again from the Goddess at the Winter Solstice. We use this day to meditate, honor the dead and let their memories live. The altar is decorated with Pumpkins, Photos of our departed loved ones, fall flowers and nuts. Sacrifices are apples, nuts and cranberry muffins with apple wine or mulled wine. Incense consists of nutmeg, sage or mint. Usually there is also a dark mirror on the altar which allows for contacting the departed. If we have a question for a departed one, we concentrate on the mirror during the ritual, the answer comes the next night in a dream. After the holiday, the leftovers remain behind for the ghosts.

  • The night of Samhain, in Irish, Oíche Shamhna and Scots Gaelic, Oidhche Shamhna, is one of the principal festivals of the Celtic calendar, and falls on the 31st of October. It represents the final harvest. In modern Ireland and Scotland, the name by which Halloween is known in the Gaelic language is still Oíche/Oidhche Shamhna. It is still the custom in some areas to set a place for the dead at the Samhain feast, and to tell tales of the ancestors on that night. (Wikipedia)

It can take many forms and can put numerous humans or animals under its mind control. A favourite form would be either a thick orange mist or a pumpkin-headed wraith.

  • Samhain is a ritual that can only be built once, and only by the Illians. It is the first of the Illian winter rituals. When built, it spawns Barbarian-aligned Frostlings, Frostling Archers, Frostling Wolf Riders, and the powerful Frostling leader, Mokka, on the map. Because these Frostlings are Barbarians, they will attack anyone - even the Illians that released them. To build Samhain, the Illians must have at least four cities under their control. Samhain has a construction cost of 200 Image:Production.gif.
  • Samhain, also known as the origin of Halloween, is a powerful and special demon of Hell, who can only rise when summoned by two powerful witches through three blood sacrifices over three days, that last day on the final harvest, Halloween. Once Samhain has risen, he is able to raise ghosts, zombies, ghouls and unleash them onto the Earth.
  • Samhain (sa-WIN) is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest. It's a day most celebrators believe is a day that the dead can return to earth provided by the thinned veil between the worlds. Many Pagans around the world like to hold rituals in rememberance of the dead--this may include family members, friends or even pets.
  • Sam's name originates from Samhain, the origins of Halloween itself. He is depicted as a child dressed in a Halloween costume, which consists of an orange set of pajamas, and a mask made of a burlap sack with buttons for eyes. Sam drags a dirty sack around with him throughout the film, but its contents are unknown, presumably candy; Although the blood stains on the sack and the cat screeches that are occasionally heard from it strongly suggest otherwise. Despite his childlike appearance, it is established that Sam is more demonic than he appears, hiding a pumpkin-shaped head resembling a skull. Dougherty described Sam's head as a cross "between an embryo and a pumpkin". Quinn Lord, who plays Sam in the film, described his character as being a demon who was born in a pumpkin patch.
  • Thousands of years ago, even long before the beginning of time, Samhain was once a mortal man, but he insulted the gods and was sentenced to rule the Underworld for all eternity. He was left mateless, robbed of sleep, robbed of movement, and robbed of companionship. Bound to a throne near the Sea of Souls. He became an evil, wicked being without emotion who judges all souls who come before him, and it is a job he is to hold until the end of time. Samhain judges the spirits that come to his realm, deciding what next stage of the afterlife will be for each one.

Scottish samhuinn ˈsavɯɲ, Old Irish samain ˈsaṽɨnʲ "summer's end", from sam "summer" and fuin "end") is a festival on the end of the harvest season in Gaelic and Brythonic cultures, with aspects of a Festival of the Dead. It is the beginning of the Celtic year. The term derives from the name of a month in the ancient Celtic calendar, in particular the first three nights of this month, with the festival marking the end of the summer season and the end of the harvest. The Gaelic festival became associated with the Catholic All Souls' Day, and appears to have influenced the secular customs now connected with Halloween. Samhain is also the name of a festival in various currents of Neopaganism inspired by Gaelic tradition. Samhain and an t-Samhain are also the Irish and Scottish Gaelic names of November, respectively.
He had seen horror beyond imagining, cruelty the mere retelling of which would strike one dead, terror and injustice and unkindness that would make the very rocks weep tears of shame. He has seen tragedies that ended empires, injustices that defy reason, love that would light the very stars turn cold and hard. He has seen torments that cannot possibly be borne and yet must be--for centuries. But though stones might weep, he never had. Over that time he had never once shed a single tear. Even at the times when Cleopatra and Helen of Troy stood before him with their tales of love, they moved him not. From those that came before him, he witnessed pain and suffering, murder and torture and betrayal, but had never once reacted to them. Samhain judges the spirits that come to his realm, deciding what next stage of the afterlife will be for each one. Once a knight came to the Land of the Green Isles from a distant land seeking to spare the soul of his dead lover. He apparently failed, as Alexander finds the knight's remains and retrieves his gauntlet, with which he challenges Samhain. He succeeds in making him cry in order to save the souls of King Caliphim and Queen Allaria. Alexander made Samhain cry by showing him the Mirror of Truth given to him by Beast. Samhain saw in the mirror all of those centuries of his pitiable existence, bound, motionless and emotionless, and for the first time felt pity for himself, shedding a single tear for all that he had lost.

The goings-on at those gatherings became a popular theme for Irish folktales. The name Samhain means "summer's end". It marked the end of the "lighter half" of the year and the coming of the "darker half". It is believed to have been the Celtic New Year, which would mean that many people would be thinking about their future and might have tried to find out what the coming year would have in store for them by means of magic. Bonfires played a large part in the celebration of Samhain, as they still do in the celebration of Halloween in the Republic of Ireland and in the celebration of Guy Fawkes Night in the United Kingdom today. On the night of Samhain people and their animals would pass between bonfires as part of a cleansing ritual and the bones of slaughtered animals would be thrown onto the flames. There does not appear to be any truth in the persistent modern rumor that Samhain was the name of ancient Celtic death deity, however, Samhain appears to have been a festival of the dead on which people believed that ghosts returned to their old homes. It has been suggested that the modern Halloween practice of dressing up in costumes originated in a Samhain custom. People are said to have disguised themselves either to frighten away evil spirits or to fool ghosts into thinking that the costume wearers were ghosts too, so that they would be left alone. It has been suggested that many Halloween traditions, such as apple bobbing, jack-o-lanterns and trick-or-treating had their origins in Samhain customs but this has been disputed.
