  • Perhaps the most polarizing figure in all of history, Baron Vincent Lambrecht of Nied is known as both a hero, and a villain; a brilliant artificer, and a horrible necromancer; a celebrated rebel leader, and a genocidal tyrant maniac. He was first known as a promising student of both the sciences and arcana at the College of Magi. He was eventually driven from the College for unknown reasons, usually assumed to be the kingdom's anti-mage policies. Fleeing to the South with his teacher, Archmage Mobius; he and his traveling companions won the hearts and minds of the Maraivolk, striking many a blow against Nied's control over the area—a control which some argue was oppressive in the extreme. It also in the Swamp that he and his teacher effectively invented the practice of arcane necromancy, developing the fundamentals of creating Mobian Undead. Leading an army composed of a horde of plague-ridden zombies, Maraivolk rebels and his own invented creations (including the Selat), Vincent carved a violent swath to the capital of Nied, where he vanquished the Order of Nied, declaring himself the Baron of Nied. His campaign, however, had left Nied a barren wasteland, the Undead legions afflicting the very land itself with a horrible blight and decimating the population for Ages to come. Vincent ruled for only a short time, using his new-found power to construct various strange apparati across the land before vanishing completely. Where he went, and for what purpose, is almost as hotly debated as the known actions of his life, and innumerable adventures and explorers have gone looking for the Baron's destination, only to come up empty.
