abstract
  • In the mirror universe, Shenti Yisec Eres Ree was a Pahkwa-thanh male doctor in the service of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance during the 24th century. He was an expert in the field of telepathic and empathic research, due to his people's extensive study of their own psi-capable minority. However, Ree himself was psi-null. In 2376, he was serving as a medical researcher on the Alliance planet Lru-Irr, which was under the command of the Klingon planetary governor Khegh. Ree was conducting research into the planet's Irriol population. The Bajoran scientist Jaza Najem objected to what he termed as Ree's "unnecessary and needlessly destructive research." However, Ree stated that his experiments were designed to cause the Irriol to confront their feelings of pain, terror and death, thereby giving him greater insight into the Irriol psyche. Jaza also regarded Ree's propensity to eat his subjects' organs as he vivisected them to be wasteful. Ree defended his action by claiming that there is much a researcher can learn from his own senses and that while Bajorans were a visual species, the Pahkwa-thanh relied more on scent and taste. Furthermore, he believed that watching his subjects' reactions to their own ingestion was "informative." Upon examining Khegh's newly purchased Elaysian slave Melora Pazlar who would be crushed by her own weight if she were not in ice cold water due to the fact that she belonged to a low gravity species, he told the governor that he failed to see the point of playing with a creature which one did not intend to eat. Khegh offered to give the Elaysian to Ree when he was finished with her. However, Ree declined, claiming that she was "too bony" and that he preferred prey who could run.
