  • A Library handles fundamental groundbreaking research, which then feeds into new technologies, buildings and of course new units. Generally, most players will start off the game with a library already set up, so all that is required is to obtain resources required to buy the research the library has to offer. Your Library can perform research in five areas: Ages, Science, Military, Economy, and Civics. Each one of them is a prerequisite for further research, which in turn might contribute towards bettering your units and even the stylistic appearance of your faction's buildings!

In order to access the Library, the player must have a climbing set. If their set is destroyed during their fall down the Rift (or the player neglects to bring one), then they will have to either buy one from the ratling dealer or leave the Rift and return with one.

  • In 2152, Captain Jonathan Archer was taken to 31st century Earth by Crewman Daniels, where the two were then trapped due to changes to the timeline. While there, Daniels led Archer into a library (with paper books), to confirm that any trace of the United Federation of Planets had been erased from history. Archer, while looking over the books, noticed one called The Romulan Star Empire, but Daniels made sure he didn't look at it. In Daniels' original timeline, the library contained only electronically stored information and was located on the same street as a monument to the Federation. The lack of information on the Federation caused Daniels to realize that it was Archer's absence from the timeline that created the future they had ended up in. (ENT: "Shockwave, Part II")
  • The Python library consists of a number of modules that may be imported with a statement such as: import math Importing a module in this fashion makes its contents available within a namespace unique to that module; for the math module, this will make the sin function callable as math.sin(5). To use the contents of a module within the global namespace, use: from math import * This makes the sin function callable as sin(5). It is also possible to import a subset of the contents of a module: from math import sin, cos, tan
  • The library is the local library of Fair City. The main librarian is Miss Dewey, who works with Milt. Becky is often seen there, though it's used more rarely in later episodes.
  • The library was used by forerunner geeks. Then when the AIDS virus took over, Gravemind tried to eat all the books to make him extra brainy but nearly choked himself. Its now only called a library because the forerunners wanted to see how many book lovers would come and get infected. It is wise to bring a shotgun, because the zombies can not rape you without their genitals. Unlike most library's, this library is absolutely massive, so much so, that many people have got lost in it. They wandered around aimlessly until the flood ate them all NOM NOM NOM!
  • In the more traditional sense, a library was a collection of books. It can mean the collection, the building or room that housed such a collection, or both. The term "library" has itself acquired a secondary meaning: "a collection of useful material for common use." Public and institutional collections and services may be intended for use by people who choose not to — or cannot afford to — purchase an extensive collection themselves, who need material no individual can reasonably be expected to have, or who require professional assistance with their research. In addition to providing materials, libraries also provide the services of librarians who are experts at finding and organizing information and at interpreting information needs. Many libraries were also repositories and access points
  • The Library on HEXRPG is a place for user-submitted books to be available for free. There is no particular incentive for posting books, although it is a useful place to store information and many clubs that include interactive lessons use Library books to get lessons up. It includes a search feature both for author and title, and is usually used for lessons or textbooks. While there is fanfiction that can be found (indeed, there is a section for just that) there is also a fanfiction section on HEX that can be accessed and is better in most ways for finding fanfiction.
  • The Library is an enormous building, with rows upon rows of bookshelves reaching its ceiling. It houses a vast array of multimedia, from books to internet databases, apparently containing "all of human knowledge." Library patrons check out books via retinal scan identification, which is overseen by the excessively cheerful librarian; if anyone trying to check out is found by the retinal scan to be in possession of overdue library items, then they are promptly detained by a forcefield and their retinas are confiscated. There is also a snack machine.
  • The Library of Tarloc is, to the knowledge of most, the most complete collection of works across the Shores of Winter excluding - possibly - the Lex Arcanis. The library can be found in the northern district of Tarloc, and is kept in condition by Pard Gein, the librarian. Some of the works that can be found here for general viewing by the public are:
  • Kyon took Yuki Nagato there during a scavenger hunt and got her a library card, which became a treasured memory for her. Nagato would continue to visit; for instance, she did so at the end of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya film. (In The Disappearance, Nagato maintained somewhat inaccurate memories of Kyon getting her the card at the library.) This article is a . You can help My English Wiki by expanding it.
  • The Library's true function is unknown at present. However it is hypothesized to be a collection of all information regarding the Flood known to the Forerunner and also collated cloned DNA sequences. All of this information is contained within the Index, which is housed within the Index Chamber and is used in the process of activating the Halo system and wiping the galaxy clean of sentient life.
  • It's natural that a MASH would need a library to store all their medical journals, technical manuals and medical records. It's surprising, however, that the library is so little used and referenced in episodes. It would have, for example, been a good place for a date but the supply tent always seems to be the preferred location for this. In "A War for All Seasons" (Season 9) Hawkeye and B.J. debate whether they can build a kidney dialysis machine. Hawkeye tells B.J. to follow him and bring his "library card" in order to read up on the subject.
  • Libraries have evolved from collections of books. They often have CDs, DVDs, journals, audio/visual (A/V) equipment to loan. And libraries have become the repositories of some art collections and original drafts of important research or creative work, such as early drafts of famous novels. Many libraries have workstations where patrons can access the Internet. Libraries may have reading rooms or just some scattered chairs and tables or study cubicles. Some libraries also have public meeting rooms that may be used for clubs. And some libraries raise funds by selling used books, such as extra copies of books that used to be more popular or extra donated books from the community.
  • “We all know of stories. The old legends told around the flames, held dear by those venerable figures. The words spoken only hoped to survive for a moment, in the minds of those around, sometimes staying long enough to be passed to others. No longer. Not here. Within this building, the tales forever preserved. They live through the ages, presented for all to know. This is the heart of civilization.” —Anonymous Librarian
  • The first known Library, (Bookatorium) was established by the Ancient Egyptians. Named the Bookatorium of Alexandria, they had an aggressive collection policy whereby Librarians would wander the streets of Alexandria, mugging anyone with a book or magazine. Books collected in this manner were then returned to the library and promptly stamped, Property of the Bookatorium of Alexandria, do not remove. From then on you had to have a card to check out all of the dangerous, 'books.'
  • The Library is a type of Town Building. The Library may be built by any race in any town. A town must already contain a Builders' Hall in order to construct a Library. The Library's base construction cost is File:Icon Production.png . The Library itself provides File:Icon Research.png per turn, applied directly to the current Research effort undertaken by the town's controlling wizard. It is not much of an investment, given that the Library has an Upkeep Cost of File:Icon Gold.png , but the cumulative effect of having many Libraries can be quite noticeable.
  • A library is a place where information, usually in book or computer form, is stored and accessible to others. Usually the books are grouped by genre (fiction, non-fiction, history, etc.) and then sorted alphabetically by the author's last name. Librarians work in libraries to assist those with information needs. Also, many larger starships designed for long-range missions were equipped with libraries. One of the trials of the Hilbert Hotel (hotel) was centered around putting books back on the shelves of the Klingon High Council library. (RIS Bouteina: "Hilbert Hotel")

Introduction
  • The Sinister Library of Niltrias is a hidden location in the game that can only be accessed by a journey through the Rift. It features numerous scrolls and spellbooks, as well as an option of receiving five valuable scrolls of chaos resistance; due to its dangerous nature and that accessing it requires the PC to have already met the entry requirements to the Rift, many players avoid this area entirely. In order to access the Library, the player must have a climbing set. If their set is destroyed during their fall down the Rift , then they will have to either buy one from the ratling dealer or leave the Rift and return with one.

  • Kyon took Yuki Nagato there during a scavenger hunt and got her a library card, which became a treasured memory for her. Nagato would continue to visit; for instance, she did so at the end of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya film. (In The Disappearance, Nagato maintained somewhat inaccurate memories of Kyon getting her the card at the library.) Near the end of The Melancholy Nagato asked Kyon to take her to the library again (when he was stuck in closed space), but Kyon ignored the request, at least for a time. He took her there during The Intrigues twice, but this was so he could solve Mikuru Asahina's problem. This article is a . You can help My English Wiki by expanding it.
  • Libraries are research buildings in Tropico 5. They contain a vast collection of books that allow Tropicans to learn the world around them. Because they’re the only research buildings in the Colonial Era, it is advisable to build one immediately in order to research technology to advance to future eras and gain access to more buildings, edicts, and constitutional stances.

  • The Library is a building in FarmVille that was released on January 22nd, 2010. It can be bought at the market for 175,000 coins. A farmer will gain 1750 XP buying it. It serves no purpose, it is just a decoration.
This is the heart of civilization.” —Anonymous Librarian With the compiling of such a variety of texts under one roof, any scholar, mage, priest and, sometimes, even the common folk may find some of the answers that they seek or, at least, clues. Furthermore, with all these literary works available and the gathering of the studious around them, the interest in learning grows and the city can provide a new sage.

  • "The development of writing meant that the accumulated knowledge of a society could be written down and stored rather than memorized and passed along by word of mouth. The accumulated written material was stored in a library. The libraries of the ancient world, especially those at Alexandria and Pergamum, became leading centers of science and scholarship. The librarians actively collected the books of the world, accelerating the spread of knowledge."

The Index is suspended within the core of the Library, out of reach of possible Flood outbreak. The only internal access is via a giant lift that descends from the highest level of the Library to the Index's suspended position. Access to the Library itself usually occurs via each installation's internal teleportation grid. On Installation 05 2401 Penitent Tangent was unable to assist the Arbiter in this manner. As a result a longer, less direct route had to be taken. An Anti-Gravity Gondola spanned the distance between a Forerunner base and the Library. This large Forerunner base was the Sentinel Wall which was protected by an energy shield and filled with hundreds if not thousands of Sentinels and Enforcers. Then, beyond the wall is an artificial lake and a great chasm that the gondola must cross. On both Installation 04 and Installation 05 the Flood was still able to breach such defenses and infest the Library. This may indicate that the Library is not as secure as the Forerunners had hoped it would be, or that it was initially a containment facility for the Flood. The interior of both Libraries consists of multiple gigantic hallways of geometric design interconnected with one another, finally leading to the Index Room. The large hallways suggests that it was designed to hold large numbers of Forerunners, possibly acting as a backup refugee camp against the Flood.

Furthermore, the Library is the first step down the intellectual development branch. It leads to the Sages' Guild, and later to the University, which is absolutely crucial for races that have access to it. Libraries are normally built in as many towns as can be afforded, even if the University is not available at all. As mentioned above, the Library requires an Upkeep Cost of File:Icon Gold.png per turn for its maintenance. If you're pressed for Gold, a Library can be sold back for File:Icon Gold.png .

From then on you had to have a card to check out all of the dangerous, 'books.' The Bookatorium also had the first known late return penalties: for each day a book was returned late, the borrower had to build one pyramid, in one week. If they failed to complete the pyramids, they were executed ("booked," not stoned). The late return stats were reportedly excellent (no doubt because anytime you'd see a pyramid, you'd be reminded to return that book)! The Library (Bookatorium) of Alexandria was said to have been burnt down by Julius Caesar when he was there visiting Queen Cleopatra. Caesar didn't want to pay the overdue book fines racked by his Roman predecessors. The other theory is the Alexandria library was destroyed in the 4th century, around the time of Roman Emperor Theodosius the Great and on behalf of the local Christians who alleged the library was full of pagan pornography. Modern scholars half agree with this assessment, suggesting it was destroyed by drunken frat boys from the USA who were pissing at the large fines they had been levied for failing to return copies of Playboy magazine in a timely manner.

Not only is it a complete game repository, but a way to look-up and record your character's adventures for all others to see. You can access the Library anywhere in the world, though travel to the major cities is required to contribute your explorations to the repository. * Learn all aspects of the game through the library interface. * The capital cities contain a grand library. These Leaderboards record things like largest damage done, richest player, most library scryings, etc. * Since the reward for contributing is based on player action (time since last scrying), the library system gives players an "unspoken quest" to go seek out a "rarely scryed" object.
  • Libraries are a way to store and manage documents, music, pictures and other files. Libraries can be browsed in the same way as any other folder. • The Library of Tarloc is, to the knowledge of most, the most complete collection of works across the Shores of Winter excluding - possibly - the Lex Arcanis. The library can be found in the northern district of Tarloc, and is kept in condition by Pard Gein, the librarian. Some of the works that can be found here for general viewing by the public are: * All books describing deity worship and dogma * A complete collection of works by Jullafield Myzel, the Lorist, based around Frostkeep's local areas and myths. * A guide to Neverlight * A Guide to Adventuring 101 * General folktales and myths written by noted authors across the Shores of Winter On top of the general books, Pard also has access to the archives of Tarloc's city hall, and the Temple's documents. These are not viewable without good cause, however, and sometimes written documentation produced by the owner of the original documents.
Many schools have their own libraries. Students, teachers and staff may freely borrow materials and unaffiliated researchers may be granted special permission to use or borrow the facilities. A library card used to be the first piece of public ID (identification) that many children would have. Professional organizations often have their own private libraries. A hospital may have a collection of reference texts and professional journals. A law firm will often have some law books and a subscription to an online collection of legal precedents. Some libraries still raise funds with a subscription fee, and many charge penalties if you keep the materials out longer than the permitted time.

Scholars and mages are seen coming and going, gathering information to help with their personal research; members of the community educate one another on various topics. Community members are knowledgeable about researching information in the library's archives. (WoWRPG 385) There are numerous such locations in the Warcraft universe.
  • After the coup d'état, the Ravinale Public Library has been taken over by the Cult. The new government renames it the "Library of Yawah, the Great and Merciful" and removes all books other than the Iqon.
When GIR was locked into "duty mode" by Zim, he ultimately decided that information about Earth could best be found in the Library; equipping himself with an information-gathering container, the brutally efficient robot broke down the doors of the establishment and demanded that the librarian give him access to all knowledge of humanity. Displeased with her reply ("That'd be under Reference!"), GIR promptly deployed one of the data canister's many tentacle-like information-gathering cables, which latched onto the librarian's brain and harvested the information in her brain. He proceeded to do this to all of the Library's patrons and computers until Zim confronted him, which prompted GIR to attempt to kill his erstwhile master.

(RIS Bouteina: "Hilbert Hotel") Federation starships were equipped standard with a library containing complete copies and discussion of more significant pieces of fiction from multiple species, including novels, scripts, poetry, holoprograms, two-dimensional films, and several games. In 2371 Tuvok traded a copy of the library aboard USS Voyager to Jaret Otel in exchange for the Sikarians' spatial trajector technology. • The Library is a setting in Fatal Frame. It is a room in the Himuro Mansion.
Many libraries were also repositories and access points for maps, prints, or other documents and various storage media. Libraries were defined as places to get unrestricted access to information in many formats and from many sources. They were understood as extending beyond the physical walls of a building, by including material accessible by electronic means, and by providing the assistance of librarians in navigating and analyzing tremendous amounts of information with a variety of digital tools.
  • The Great Library of Saronia is located in the Northwestern Saronia on the Surface World. It is inaccessible when the Warriors of Light first arrive there, since the guard is under the orders of King Gorn to not let anyone into the library. After Gigameth is defeated, King Alus allows the Warriors of Light to enter. Though it is not required to proceed, inspecting the shelves reveals information about the "Flood of Light" that threatened the world in past times.
  • It's natural that a MASH would need a library to store all their medical journals, technical manuals and medical records. It's surprising, however, that the library is so little used and referenced in episodes. It would have, for example, been a good place for a date but the supply tent always seems to be the preferred location for this. The 4077th MASH library is only shown once, during the Pilot episode. We see Lieutenant "Dish" Schneider looking for some books in the library only to find Hawkeye there waiting to hit on her. There is no information about where the library is but a logical location would be together with the medical supplies in the supply tent. In "A War for All Seasons" (Season 9) Hawkeye and B.J. debate whether they can build a kidney dialysis machine. Hawkeye tells B.J. to follow him and bring his "library card" in order to read up on the subject.
The main benefit of the Library is the cost - there isn't one! There are no loans out, unlike a real library, but there is no need to purchase the books either.

  • The Library contains lots of books including the Self-Help Book which is a key item needed for Judgement Boy's soul. Books that can be read in your room to increase your Mental Gauge will stand out on the shelves because they're a different color and are a lot brighter.
  • Another Library appears in the episode "The Last Laserdisc Player" with a different design. It is where Mordecai, Rigby, Muscle Man, and High Five Ghost go to find a laserdisk player. It appears again in the episode, "Party Horse", when Mordecai and Rigby help Party Horse study for his US History test.
  • The Library is a research room, similar to the Workshop, that attracts Warlocks, who enjoy researching in it. Other creatures can also be placed in the library to research. Warlocks at level 2 and over will shoot fireballs at creatures that run through, most of the time Imps. When something has been researched, the researchers will cheer to the accompaniment of magical fireworks. When your library is being destroyed by Heroes, some spells will disappear and will have to be researched again. Room advances are permanent. You can see the progress or a researched spell by clicking on the “?” Icon on the far left of your on screen menu.
  • It is a public library and not part of the Academy. A library card is required to borrow material. The building closes at 5 PM. Student and black magic enthusiast Kaori Saeki often requests expensive magic books from the library. As a result, there is a somewhat unusually large collection of them.
If their set is destroyed during their fall down the Rift (or the player neglects to bring one), then they will have to either buy one from the ratling dealer or leave the Rift and return with one.
  • The library is the local library of Fair City. The main librarian is Miss Dewey, who works with Milt. Becky is often seen there, though it's used more rarely in later episodes. In Book Ends, it was threatened by Tobey's robots. In Have You Seen The Remote?, Wordgirl and Tobey search the library for the remote and read the dictionary together. Books that can be found there include Superheros and You: A Practical Guide and Supervillains and You. According to Miss Dewey, Becky has read all the books in the library and has never been late returning them. It can be assumed that Becky visits the library quite often.
  • This is an ever expanding list of articles and books available widely to the denizens of Aevonhold. The book index can be found in the center of the library which also activates the giant hula hoop to repeal the AIDS infection!

(ENT: "Shockwave, Part II") While Kolos was serving his sentence mining dilithium on Rura Penthe later that year, he remarked to Captain Archer that he had perhaps spent too much time in the law library and not enough on the battlefield. (ENT: "Judgment") By 2267, Samuel T. Cogley owned thousands of law books in his library. (TOS: "Court Martial" ) In 2269, Spock, Doctor McCoy, and Captain Kirk encountered a library on the planet Sarpeidon, run by a Mr. Atoz. (TOS: "All Our Yesterdays" ) Also in 2269, Nyota Uhura found writings by Stavos Keniclius in the library computer. (TAS: "The Infinite Vulcan") A shipboard library was available on the USS Enterprise-E. In 2375, Commanders Riker and Troi were researching the Son'a, Tarlac, and Ellora in the ship's library. Another officer present was researching the Apollo 11 mission, and another the history of the Founders. (Star Trek: Insurrection) In an alternate timeline, where Data held the Lucasian Chair, he met with Jean-Luc Picard and Geordi La Forge in his library at Cambridge University. (TNG: "All Good Things..." ) An early behind-the-scenes name for the science station on the USS Enterprise was "library-computer station". Furthermore, in the first draft script of TOS: "Charlie X" , the vessel was referred to as having an actual library on-board (it was also referred to in a developmental memo Robert Justman wrote Gene Roddenberry, on 7 June 1966 , regarding that script).
