  • The Fire Extinguisher is an environmental execution that appears in Manhunt 2. It appears in the missions Bees Honey Pot, Origins and Broadcast Interrupted.
  • A fire extinguisher is an active fire protection device used to extinguish or control small fires, often in emergency situations. It is not intended for use on an out-of-control fire, such as one which has reached the ceiling, endangers the user (i.e. no escape route, smoke, explosion hazard, etc.), or otherwise requires the expertise of a fire department. Typically, a fire extinguisher consists of a hand-held cylindrical pressure vessel containing an agent which can be discharged to extinguish a fire. There are two main types of fire extinguishers: Stored pressure and generated pressure. In stored pressure units, the propellant is stored in the same chamber as the firefighting agent itself. Depending on the agent used, different propellants are used. With dry chemical extinguishers, nitrogen is typically used; water and foam are pressurized with air. Stored pressure is the most common type of fire extinguisher. Cartridge-operated extinguishers contain the propellant gas in a separate cartridge that is punctured prior to discharge, exposing the propellant to the agent. These types are not as common, used primarily in areas such as industrial facilities, where they receive higher-than-average use. They have the advantage of simple and prompt recharge, allowing an operator to discharge the extinguisher, recharge it, and return to the fire in a reasonable amount of time. Unlike stored pressure types, these extinguishers utilize compressed carbon dioxide instead of nitrogen, although nitrogen cartridges are used on low temperature (-60 rated) models. Cartridge operated types are available in dry chemical and dry powder in the US and water, wetting agent, foam, and dry powder (ABC, BC, or D) in the rest of the world. Fire extinguishers are further divided into handheld and cart-mounted, also called wheeled extinguishers. Handheld extinguishers weigh from 0.5 to 14 kilograms (1 to 30 pounds), and are hence easily portable by hand. Cart-mounted units typically weigh 23+ kilograms (50+ pounds). These wheeled models are most commonly found at construction sites, airport runways, heliports, as well as docks and marinas.

A small model usable by a single hand was kept in a wicker basket just outside her bedroom. (TV: The Visitation) The Eighth Doctor later used a fire extinguisher in the TARDIS library when a page from his copy of The Strand caught on fire, (PROSE: The Bodysnatchers) and the Tenth (TV: The Runaway Bride) and Eleventh Doctors (TV: The Angels Take Manhattan) sprayed an extinguisher into the console room after particularly rough landings. The Third Doctor's UNIT laboratory was also equipped with fire extinguishers. Upon her first meeting with the Doctor, Jo Grant used one when she saw smoke emanating from the Lamadine steady state microwelding the Doctor was performing on the TARDIS dematerialisation circuit. The Doctor berated her for this as she had ruined his work. (TV: Terror of the Autons) In the 41st century, Peri used a fire extinguisher on Zixlyr's ship. (AUDIO: The Bride of Peladon) A Dalek on Survey Ship Sigma replaced it's arm with a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. (COMIC: The Dalek Project) The Doctor invented a fire extinguisher which produced eighty times more foam than normal extinguishers. He used it to put out a fire from a Bunsen burner on the TARDIS console. (COMIC: Bad Vibrations)
  • In 1986, Gregory's forklift had a fire extinguisher attached to it. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home) In 2152, while being pursued by three Mazarite ships, Enterprise NX-01 was able to reach its maximum speed of warp 5, but with considerable difficulty. During the chase, the port plasma injectors blew out, starting a fire, and a crewman had to use an extinguisher to put it out. (ENT: "Fallen Hero") In early-2154, during a battle with Xindi forces, Enterprise sustained heavy damage, with hull breaches and fires on many decks, including engineering. Several crewmen, including Commander Tucker, rushed to put the fires out with extinguishers. (ENT: "Azati Prime") Later the same year, a plasma conduit ruptured aboard Enterprise, causing a fire on E deck. A nearby engineering crewman got a fire extinguisher and put the fire out. (ENT: "The Forgotten") In the alternate reality 2258, fire extinguishers were available at the Riverside Shipyard. (Star Trek) In 2369, Major Kira Nerys used a fire extinguisher to fight the fire aboard the Kobliad transport ship Reyab and extinguished the fire in Rao Vantika's holding cell. (DS9: "The Passenger") The same year Major Kira was carrying a portable fire extinguisher when Sisko and Kira tried to free Julian Bashir and the ambassadors Taxco, Vadosia, and Lojal. (DS9: "The Forsaken") When the school aboard Deep Space 9 was destroyed by a bomb, a Bajoran officer cleared the fire by using a fire extinguisher. (DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets") Bajoran sub-impulse fighters were equipped with fire extinguishers. In 2370, Lieutenant Jadzia Dax attempted to use one to put a fire out in a plasma conduit, but it was empty. The fighter subsequently crashed on the surface of Bajor. (DS9: "The Siege") Following the transport of Voyager into the Delta Quadrant, Harry Kim used a fire extinguisher in sickbay to get control over a fire in an exploded console. (VOY: "Caretaker") In late 2371, during a joint Obsidian Order/Tal Shiar attack on the Founders' homeworld, Lovok's Warbird was severely damaged. During the battle, a section of the bridge set on fire. Two Romulan officers quickly proceeded to put it out using Romulan fire extinguishers. (DS9: "The Die is Cast") In 2372, the USS Defiant suffered severe damage during Dr. Lenara Kahn's attempt to create an artificial wormhole. The entire engine room was engulfed in a plasma fire. Lieutenant Commander Eddington observed the extinguishers the damage control team were carrying would not be enough to put it out. (DS9: "Rejoined") In 2375, the USS Rio Grande, carrying Odo and Weyoun 6, was attacked by several Jem'Hadar fighters. During the engagement, the runabout interior caught fire. Weyoun, using a manual extinguisher, put the fire out. (DS9: "Treachery, Faith and the Great River") Later the same year, during the Second Battle of Chin'toka, Ensign Nog reported that the fire-suppression system aboard the Defiant went down. Lieutenant Commander Worf then told him to use a manual extinguisher instead. (DS9: "The Changing Face of Evil") During the Battle of the Briar Patch in late-2375, the USS Enterprise-E was attacked by two Son'a battle cruisers employing subspace weaponory. During the battle a fire had developed in engineering, which Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge put out using an extinguisher. He used the same extinguisher later in the battle, after another fire had set a crewman's uniform alight. (Star Trek: Insurrection)

If they breath enough of the agent in, this will cause them to become knocked out. In Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Splinter Cell: Double Agent, fire extinguishers are much more effective than in previous games. Players can create a punctured spot in the extinguisher's container by shooting it with a firearm, creating a burst of smoke to come from the hole. Enemies and personnel caught in the smoke are usually knocked out instantly. In Splinter Cell: Conviction, fire extinguishers return but serve a more integral part to the game than before. The effects of being shot are also much different compared previous games; when the fire extinguisher is shot by a firearm, the container explodes instead of just releasing smoke. The effects of the explosion are roughly the same as using a frag grenade or proximity mine. Using Mark and Execute, the player can Mark fire extinguishers (along with other targets, if the player has enough marks) in order to chain it into their 'Execute'.
  • The Fire Extinguisher is a piece of Equipment that is used to combat fires using CO2 cartridges.
