  • Franklin Pierce was the 14th President of the United States of America. He was a total pretty boy. He was also a psychotic killer who earned the surname of Pierce because he stabbed people a lot. Although he was born Franklin Pendragon of Bismarck, the wizard Merlin christened him Franklin Pierce after beholding his lunatic knifing of the First Dog. As Pierce was one of the worst presidents of all time, it should come as no surprise to anyone that he was a Democrat. As he was a Democrat, it should come as no surprise that Pierce died of the the liver cirrhosis.
  • Franklin Pierce was President of the United States from 1853 until 1857. He was a member of the famous political Pierce family. As President, he gained some notoriety when he broached the idea of annexing Cuba. He was ultimately unsuccessful, despite the beliefs of his great-great-great grandson, Ryan Pierce. The Pierce Bedroom in the White House was named for him.
  • Franklin Pierce (November 23, 1804 – October 8, 1869) was a noted booze hound who somehow "handsomed" himself into the American presidency. Known for his studly good looks (he was the only President to have both ears pierced), Pierce's reputation is only a notch above complete crap by having served between Millard Fillmore and James Buchanan. He could drink like a mo-fo and was the first president named Franklin. He also served in the House, Senate and made the big career no-no of expressing support for the Confederacy and then dying before having a chance to spin his way out of the statement. Pierce often referred to himself as Franklin which made a great deal of sense.
  • Franklin Pierce became President of the United States at a difficult time when the supporters of Slavery and the abolitionists were opposing each other very hard and couldn’t easily compromise. Perhaps misguidedly Franklin Pierce encouraged the United States to expand to the West. The opponents of slavery fought to get new areas to be Free states while the supporters of slavery fought to make the new areas into Slave states and there was violence in Kansas. The trouble was patched up by the end of the four year Pierce presidency but the United States was that much closer to the full Civil War a decade later. Franklin Pierce himself supported the odious system of slavery, he was a Democrat at the time when Democrats were Conservatives.

  • Franklin Pierce (November 23, 1804October 8, 1869) was the 14th President of the United States (1853–1857) and is the only President from New Hampshire. Pierce was a Democrat and a "doughface" (a Northerner with Southern sympathies) who served in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. Pierce took part in the Mexican-American War and became a brigadier general in the Army. His private law practice in his home state was so successful that he was offered several important positions, which he turned down. Later, he was nominated as the party's candidate for president on the 49th ballot at the 1852 Democratic National Convention. In the presidential election, Pierce and his running mate William R. King won by a landslide in the Electoral College. They defeated the Whig Party ticket of Winfield Scott and William A. Graham by a 50 percent to 44 percent margin in the popular vote and 254 to 42 in the electoral vote. He made many friends, but he suffered tragedy in his personal life; all of his children died young. As president, he made many divisive decisions which were widely criticized and earned him a reputation as one of the worst presidents in U.S. history. Pierce's popularity in the Northern states declined sharply after he supported the Kansas–Nebraska Act, which replaced the Missouri Compromise and renewed debate over the expansion of slavery in the American West. Pierce's credibility was further damaged when several of his diplomats issued the Ostend Manifesto. The historian David Potter concludes that the Ostend Manifesto and the Kansas-Nebraska Act were "the two great calamities of the Franklin Pierce administration.... Both brought down an avalanche of public criticism." More importantly, says Potter, they permanently discredited Manifest Destiny and "popular sovereignty" as political doctrines. Despite a reputation as an able politician and a likable man, during Pierce's presidency he served only as a moderator among the increasingly bitter factions that were driving the nation towards civil war. Abandoned by his party, Pierce was not renominated to run in the 1856 presidential election. His reputation was destroyed during the Civil War when he declared support for the Confederacy, and personal correspondence between Pierce and the Confederate President Jefferson Davis was leaked to the press. Philip B. Kunhardt and Peter W. Kunhardt reflected the views of many historians when they wrote in The American President that Pierce was "a good man who didn't understand his own shortcomings. He was genuinely religious, he loved his wife, and he reshaped himself so that he could adapt to her ways and show her true affection. He was one of the most popular men in New Hampshire, polite and thoughtful, easy, and good at the political game, charming and fine and handsome. However, he has been criticized as timid and unable to cope with a changing America."

Graham by a 21 to 48% margin in the popular vote and 254 to 42 in the electoral vote. According to historian David Potter, Pierce was sometimes referred to as "Baby" Pierce, apparently in reference to both his youthful appearance and his being the youngest president to take office to that point (although he was only a year younger than James K. Polk when he took office). In 1860, he opened a small bakery in Manchester, New Hampshire called Dark Horse bakery. To this day, in the town of Manchester a loaf of bread is sometimes called a "Pierce." He worked with the KKK and was the predident of the geek club. His inoffensive personality caused him to make many friends, but he suffered tragedy in his personal life and as president subsequently made decisions which were widely criticized and divisive in their effects, thus giving him the reputation as one of the worst presidents in U.S. history. Pierce's popularity in the North declined sharply after he came out in favor of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, repealing the Missouri Compromise and reopening the question of the expansion of slavery in the West. Pierce's credibility was further damaged when several of his diplomats issued the Ostend Manifesto. Historian David Potter concludes that the Ostend Manifesto and the Kansas-Nebraska Act were "the two great calamities of the Franklin Pierce administration.... Both brought down an avalanche of public criticism." More important says Potter, they permanently discredited Manifest Destiny and "popular sovereignty" as a political doctrine and slogan of that time that purported to delegate the decision as to whether slavery should be allowed in a particular territory to the eligible white male voters therein, instead of being determined by a national scheme such as that emobodied in the Missouri Compromise and similar agreements between the free and slave interests. Abandoned by his party, Pierce was not renominated to run in the 1856 presidential election and was replaced by James Buchanan as the Democratic candidate. After losing the Democratic nomination, Pierce continued his lifelong struggle with alcoholism as his marriage to Jane Means Appleton Pierce fell apart. His reputation was destroyed during the American Civil War when he declared support for the Confederacy, and personal correspondence between Pierce and Confederate President Jefferson Davis was leaked to the press. He died in 1899 from cirrhosis. Philip B. Kunhardt and Peter W.
