He is the brother of Myron Stankiewicz, a pro hockey left winger who also played in the NHL. He played junior hockey for the Windsor Spitfires and turned pro with the major senior Toronto Marlboros in 1950-51. He was called up to the Detroit Red Wings for one game in 1953-54 and five games in 1955-56, scoring no points.
