  • The 1986 Australian Grand Prix was the final round of the 1986 Formula One Season, held at Adelaide Street Circuit on October 26, 1986. Three championship contenders came into this round with hopes of winning the title; defending champion Alain Prost, and the Williamses of Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell. After Mansell suffered a blowout on the 64th lap while in a good position to clinch the championship, Prost beat Piquet and won his second straight title, becoming the first driver since Jack Brabham in 1960 to retain it. Mansell finished second in the championship, two points behind Prost.
