  • The first story in Ginger's diary.
  • It was among the few animated series in Nickelodeon that was ahead of its time, featuring (relatively) realistic situations and teenage issues which soon set a mark for the future titles to come in the Teen Nick time slot. The most notable among the show pointed out that it didn't follow the Limited Wardrobe trope compared to the other Nick titles. It is also one of the only shows, not just on Nickelodeon, but perhaps in all of children's entertainment, to portray interracial romance in a serious (and positive) light.
  • The show revolves around the life of Ginger Foutley, a typical junior high school student who lives in a fictional Connecticut community named Sheltered Shrubs. She often tries to improve her social calendar and become more popular, but usually gets mixed up in jams because of guidance from her three best friends; Dodie, Macie and Courtney and the schemes of her arch-nemesis, Miranda. Ginger also receives guidance from her mother, Lois, who is a nurse at the hospital. Every episode ends with Ginger writing a story in her diary recapping the events of the show.
  • As Told by Ginger is an American Emmy-nominated animated series that premiered on Nickelodeon in October 2000. The show focuses on Ginger Foutley and her adventures at Lucky Jr. High, as she records them in her diary. The series was noted for its storylines, character development and the fact that the characters change outfits each time a new day comes.

The show focuses on Ginger Foutley and her adventures at Lucky Jr. High, as she records them in her diary. The series was noted for its storylines, character development and the fact that the characters change outfits each time a new day comes. In the United States, about half the episodes of the third and final season remain unaired. Also, several episodes that were once available through reruns have been taken out of the rotation. This came as a disappointment to fans during its initial run.

The series is unique among other Nicktoons, since it is a coming-of-age drama series, has an ongoing story arc, deals with mature subjects, the characters age and change their clothes and there is little-to-no comedy or fictional stuff at all. As a result, the show was soon moved to the TeenNick segment and is the first Nicktoon to make it there.
