When the elder Sidrona was executed by the Imperial Security Bureau on false charges of treason, he had enough and left to join the Rebels, as he would probably would have been arrested for being related to the senator anyway. In the Rebel Alliance, which he joined in 1 BBY, Sidrona was appointed the Minister of Industry. He performed well in the position, overseeing the industrial output and assets of the Alliance. Mon Mothma therefore appointed him as the Secretary of the Cabinet, essentially the head of government, in 2 ABY, after the original holder was killed by the Empire. He quickly gained a reputation for being an authority figure among the cabinet, bringing in a new sense of discipline and increasing the efficiency of the cabinet. Sidrona was praised for his work but at the same time was viewed by Mothma and Leia Organa with suspicion, who were worried that he may be gaining too much power. However, over the next two years leading up to Endor, Sidrona made no attempt at a power grab. Following the formation of the New Republic, he became the Chair of the Senate, overseeing the newly formed Senate.
