In Greek mythology, this constellation represents the Golden-Fleeced Ram (Krios Khrysomallos [Latin Aries Chrysomallus]) was a mythological ram who could talk and fly. This ram rescued the 2 children of the goddess Nephele, who were about to be sacrificed and asked the children to sacrifice himself in their place. His selfless act got him immortalized in the stars as the constellation Aries. His Golden Fleece was placed in a holy grove protected by Ares, the god of war. This fleece would be the one sought after by Jason and the Argonauts.
