| abstract | - In 2369, the Toh'Kaht travelled to the Gamma Quadrant under the command of Captain Tel'Peh, first officer Hon'Tihl and medical officer Kee'Bhor. The vessel was on a two month bio-survey mission with intentions of establishing the first Klingon colony on the other side of the Bajoran wormhole. The covert secondary mission of the Toh'Kaht was to discover alien weapons technology, and return it to the Empire. Approximately three weeks after departure from Deep Space 9, the Toh'Kaht returned through the wormhole a month ahead of schedule. Immediately after clearing the event horizon, the vessel exploded. Further investigations found that the ship had been sabotaged and was destroyed from the detonation of a thalmerite device on the ship's warp core. Hon'Tihl was the only survivor of the explosion, but died shortly after beaming to the station. It was later discovered that the Toh'Kaht had fallen under the influence of a set of energy sphere on Saltah'na V, causing paranoia and factionism amongst its crew, a re-enactment of the events that led to the destruction of the Saltah'na race. (DS9 episode: "Dramatis Personae") Although most other Vor'cha-class starships are referred to as attack cruisers in canon, the Toh'Kaht and other Vor'cha-class vessels listed by the Decipher RPG as battle cruisers. It is not clear if this is because they are outfitted differently or if the two cruiser terms had become somewhat synonymous.

After opening the spheres, the matrix caused paranoia and factionism amongst its crew, a re-enactment of the events that led to the destruction of the Saltah'na species. (DS9: "Dramatis Personae") According to the script for the episode, the pronunciation for Toh'Kaht was "TOE kot". [1] In that script, the Toh'Kaht was classified as a Bird-of-Prey. The Starships RPG sourcebook gives its registry as IKC-11515. According to Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 65) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), there was a quaternary system named Toh'Kaht, which might be the possible origin for the name of this starship, in the Beta Quadrant. This system consisted of two F-class stars and two K-class stars.
