He would distinguish himself across many battlefronts, most notably on Dantooine, though he would continue to bring victory for the Republic on Ryloth, Null, Boz Pity and Haruun Kal among others. In the final days of the war, Windu confronted and defeated Sith Lord Darth Sidious in a difficult duel, after being informed by Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker that Sidious and Supreme Chancellor Palpatine were the same person. Despite Sidious' attempts to use Skywalker's fears and mistrust of Windu against the Jedi, Windu defended himself against Skywalker's misguided attack and slew Darth Sidious, ending the Banite line of Sith forever. With the Sith dead and the Republic leaderless, the High Council appointed Windu as a member of the Triumvirate, a temporary leadership body to guide the Republic back into a balanced, self-sufficient state. Stepping down from the High Council, Windu represented the Order on the Triumvirate, joined by Bail Organa representing the Senate, and Wilhuff Tarkin representing the military. When the Constitution was restored and the taint of the Sith stripped away, elections were held and Windu voluntarily left his position to serve as the leader of the Council of Reconciliation. Helping to oversee the transition from wartime into peacetime, Windu was glad to see the Confederacy of Independent Systems agree to the treaty and sue for peace. With the Order flourishing under the new leadership of Grand Master Tomac MoorcĂ©, Windu gladly left politics behind him when he accepted the position of Temple Master of Akar Kesh on Tython in Year 25. At the advanced age of 111 standard years old, after nearly half a century as Temple Master, Mace Windu became one with the Force.
