Bondurant's debut came in 1963, when he competed at Riverside. Starting 35th in the field of forty-one, Bondurant crashed out of the race early but still finished 29th. Bondurant's next race came in 1965, when the driver returned to Riverside. Another DNF hindered Bondurant, as early wheel cylinder issues left him 28th. Bondurant's best races, though, waited until the 1981 season to happen. Competing in both Riverside events during the year, Bondurant lost his engine late in the January event but finished 21st. He was even better in the June event, completing all but five laps in route to a career-best 18th place run.
