* Wait 'Til the Sun Shines, Nellie Der Begriff „Polecat“ („Pfostenkatze“) leitet sich von dem Pfosten (engl. „Pole“) ab, der im amerikanischen Friseurladen als Hutständer dient: Eine bunte, oft rotweiß schräggestreifte Stange, auf die ein Hut geworfen wurde. „Katzen“ streicht um diesen Pfosten: hörgenusssüchtige Leute, die die Möglichkeiten dieser gemeinsamen Gesangstechnik des Barbershop auch mit fremden Leuten abloten möchten. „Polecats“ sind somit erklärte, vernarrte Barbershop-Sänger, die auch abseits ihrer Ensembles nach Möglichkeiten suchen, um mit ggf. wildfremden Leuten gemeinsam Barbershop zu singen – was möglich ist, wenn man sich im Repertoire standardisiert. Somit sind „Polecat songs“ schlicht Barbershop-Standardsongs, die jeder Barbershop-Sänger nach kurzer Zeit kennen wird, und zu deren Aufführung er in frei gefundenen Kombinationen „unterwegs“ beitragen kann – wenn er drei andere „Pfostenkatzen“ der richtigen Stimmlagen findet, die genauso wie er um den imaginären Hutständer streichen, stets auf der Suche nach gutem Klang aus menschlichen Stimmen.
