In truth, Vanis's droid was Ellie. Calrissian, Chewbacca, Mone, and C-3PO were all captured by Admiral Griggor Tower, who intended to torture them for information about the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker, and launched an interplanetary missile at Iskalon in order to create a tidal wave large enough to wipe out any suspected Rebel bases hidden there. When K-3PX informed Vader of this, the Dark Lord gave K-3PX orders to arrest Tower for endangering Skywalker.
