Three Russian teams have competed in Formula One; Midland, Virgin and Marussia (Virgin's successor).
  • Russia (Russian: Россия, tr. Rossiya), officially known as both Russia and the Russian Federation (Russian: Российская Федерация, tr. Rossiyskaya Federatsiya), is a country in northern Eurasia. It is a federal semi-presidential republic, comprising 83 federal subjects. From northwest to southeast, Russia shares borders with Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (both via Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the People's Republic of China, Mongolia, and North Korea. It also has maritime borders with Japan by the Sea of Okhotsk, and the United States by the Bering Strait. At 17,075,400 square kilometres (6,592,800 sq mi), Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than one eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area. Russia is
  • The Russian Federation, known as Russia, is a semi-presidential republic extending over much of northern Europe and northern Asia. It comprises 83 federal subjects, and is the largest country in the world in terms of geographical borders. The Soviet Union fell in 1991. Russia became the center of a (more or less) democratic federation, and re-emerged as a major economic power on the world stage throughout the beginning of the 21st Century.
  • In 1917, the ruler of the country, the tsar, was overthrown and replaced by a communist government under Vladimir Lenin. Russia was a communist state until the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 1991. (ENT: "Storm Front"; VOY: "Future's End, Part II") In 2032, Russia took part in the Ares IV mission. (VOY: "One Small Step") The Russian flag could be seen on the Ares IV model amongst others. Pavel Chekov was born in Russia in 2245. Irina Galliulin, with whom Chekov was romantically involved, was also of Russian descent. (TOS: "Who Mourns for Adonais?" , "The Way to Eden" )
  • Established EU accession date The Russian Federation (Российская Федерация), more commonly known as Russia (Россия), is a state in northern Eurasia. It is the largest country in the world, and a federal semi-presidential republic, comprising 85 federal subjects. From northwest to southeast, Russia shares borders with Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (both via Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and North Korea.
  • Russia was first formed as the Tsardom of Russia, when Ivan IV assumed the title of Tsar and created a centralized Russian state in 1547. It's predecessor state was the Grand Duchy of Moscow, which itself was formed in 1283 after the destruction of Kievan Rus, which had existed since the 9th century. The Soviet Union was formed in 1922 and lasted until it was dissolved in 1991. The Russian Federation assumed the Soviet Union's rights and obligations. On August 25, 1931, Marty McFly used the name of the film From Russia with Love to enter the El Kid speakeasy.
  • Russia emerged from a feudal breakdown of early medieval as an absolute monarchy, proclaiming itself an Empire in 1721. Social instabilities, World War I and an inept monarch led to a revolution in 1917, which eventually resulted in the Bolshevicks (a more dictatory branch of Communism) seizing power. From 1922 to 1991, the Russian government (known as the RSFSR) was part of the Soviet Union. The latter was mostly responsible for the Allies' victory in World War II. The Cold War existed between the Soviet Union and the West from 1947, although isolated incidents of "accidental" friendly fire began in early 1945, to the "discharge" (разрядка) in late 1980's and the country's collapse in 1991.
  • Russia (Russian: Россия, tr. Rossiya), also officially known as the Russian Federation (Russian: Российская Федерация, tr. Rossiyskaya Federatsiya), is a transcontinental country in northern Eurasia. It's a federation comprising 84 federal subjects and 3 federal cities. Russia stretches 9 time zones. Since January 2016, Russia suffers from a negative unemployment rate, which means that there are currently about 52,000 (Q2,2016) more jobs on offer than there are available labor force. About 81 percent of the population are ethnic Russians.
  • Russia was picked as the civilization for Zoey during her civilization game against the others. Zoey spawned north of the Mayan civilization, which belonged to Hannah. Zoey proceeded to build a city above Hannah's first city to block her in. Among the other players, Zoey stood out the most because her civilization was the only one that hadn't researched writing; and as a result, at episode 15 her literacy was still at zero. She defended this by saying that her people didn't need to learn how to read if she was going to "Deathstab" everything.
  • The Russian Federation is the largest country in the world in territory, covering 11 time zones. It has a population of 145 million people, although the population is decreasing because of low birthrates and low life expectancy. The capital and largest city is Moscow, with 10 million people; other major cities are St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod and Yekaterinburg. Russia is the sucessor state to the Soviet Union, and it adopted a democratic constitution on December 12, 1993. The Russian Federation has one of the five permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council.
  • La Russia (nome completo:Gruande Muadre Puatria Ruossia) è lo Stato più grande del mondo, si trova tra l'Asia e l'Europa, è governato da una repubblica dal 1991 dopo 120 anni di comunismo assoluto. • By the turn of the 20th century, an unknown celestial object crash landed in Russia's Tunguska region. It is believed that the object was responsible for bringing the Chimera to Earth. Although the impact was widely noticed by the world, there has not been any serious attempts to study the crash site. By 1914, Russia entered the Great War on the side of the Allies. Despite possessing the largest military force in the world at the time, Russia faced difficult challenges against the Central Powers. Instant mismanagement of resources and manpower caused Russian citizens to revolt and abdicate Tsar Nicholas II. Before being exiled to Siberia, the Tsar appointed his brother, Grand Duke Mikhail, to become the new Tsar of Russia. Under Tsar Mikhail, several uprisings were quelled within the count
  • From northwest to southeast, Russia shares borders with Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (both via Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and North Korea. It also has maritime borders with Japan by the Sea of Okhotsk, and the US state of Alaska by the Bering Strait. At 17,075,400 square kilometers (6,592,800 square miles), Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than one eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area. • Russia, or The north pole of Earth, 8th Sector of USSR or Vee Speak Like This!, is considered to be near that of a supernation and is located on the north of Earth. There is only one person living here, and his name is "Skisky". Skisky ruled the largest nation of all, Russia, for more than 125 years, ever since he was a baby (he was left alone there). Since then, Russia prospered from being a town with nothing to a town with one baby and snow. For a period of time, it was renamed the USSR until Skisky thought, hey, the name is not good. Russia is famous for the Catherdal of the World with Spade-like thingies, or Saint Paul's Catherdal, after Skisky's grreat-granduncle, Saint Paul. Currently, Russia is employing an ant to produce electricity rather than using their own power source than was

  • “Muscovy”, as its rulers have previously called it, is a sleeping giant, with age-old traditions and ways of doing things. Here, the feudal way of life has become so entrenched that the serfs are as tied to the land as cattle, and with almost as few rights. It is a vast, deeply conservative and religious country: Mother Russia and the Orthodox Church are the two pillars of national belief. The Tsar may be the father of his people, but by tradition and practice he is a stern parent. Ivan the Terrible was well named, and he has not been the only ruler with an iron will. Russia needs a strong hand controlling the “Third Rome”, the true home of Christianity (according to the Orthodox Church) after the fall of Byzantium.
  • Russia (i/ˈrʌʃə/; Russian: Россия, tr. Rossiya; IPA: [rɐˈsʲijə]), also officially the <default>Russia</default> Capital Language Russian Federation[12] (Russian: Российская Федерация, tr.Rossiyskaya Federatsiya; IPA: [rɐˈsʲijskəjə fʲɪdʲɪˈratsɨjə]), is a country in Eurasia.[13] At 17,075,200 square kilometres (6,592,800 sq mi), Russia is the largest country in the world by surface area, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area,[14][15][16] and the ninth most populous, with over 144 million people at the end of March 2016.[17][7] The European western part of the country is much more populated and urbanised than the eastern; about 77% of the population live in European Russia. Russia's capital Moscow is one of the largest cities in the world; other
  • At 17,075,400 square kilometres (6,592,800 sq mi), Russia is by far the largest country in the world, covering more than a ninth of the Earth's land area. Russia is also the ninth most populous nation in the world with 142 million people. It extends across the whole of northern Asia and 40% of Europe, spanning 9 time zones and incorporating a wide range of environments and landforms. Russia has the world's largest reserves of mineral and energy resources, and is considered an energy superpower. It has the world's largest forest reserves and its lakes contain approximately one-quarter of the world's fresh water.
  • Russia, also the Russian Federation , is a transcontinental country extending over much of northern Eurasia. It is a semi-presidential republic comprising comprising 83 federal subjects.. Russia shares land borders with the following countries (counter-clockwise from northwest to southeast): Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania (Kaliningrad Oblast), Poland (Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia and North Korea. It is also close to the U.S. state of Alaska, Sweden, Denmark, Turkey and Japan across relatively small stretches of water (the Bering Strait, the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and La Pérouse Strait, respectively).
  • Ever since the Muscovite Tsardom transformed into the Russian Empire, expansionist ambitions has formed her foreign policy. Having successfully contested Sweden, Prussia and the Ottoman Empire for lands, St. Petersburg has now reached another level of ambition. The young Russian monarch, Alexander I, cares little for the new lands. His ambitions are much higher than that - to defeat Napoleon himself and “save Europe” from French tyranny.
  • The Russian Federation (or simply just called Russia) is a country in Eurasia and is currently the largest country in the world. It was formerly part of the Soviet Union, or the U.S.S.R (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), a former federation of communist republics that occupied the northern half of Asia and part of eastern Europe from 1917, to its fall in 1991. The country served on the Vietnam War The country rivaled the United States of America during the Cold War, lasting from the end of World War II, to the fall of communism in 1991.
  • The Russian Federation, or Russia, is a country that bridges the continents of Europe and Asia. It is also the former center of the Russian Empire, and the United Soviet Socialist Republic, a political repressive communist regime that lasted from 1917 to 1991. The Russian Empire was the ally of Britain, France and Serbia during World War I, fighting the Austro-Hungarian and German Empires. Russia signed a peace treaty with Germany after it lost too much territory and the government collapsed, exiting the war.

  • During the 15th century, the Italian Assassins sent several of its members, including Pietro Antonio Solari and Ridolfo "Aristotele" Fioravant, to Moscow, where they were recruited by Tsar Ivan III Vasilevich as architects to work on the Kremlin. Unbeknownst to Ivan, they secretly kept an eye on his activities and ambitions, reporting back to the Assassins in Italy. However, in 1493, Ivan found out that Solari and Aristotele were spies, and had Solari killed. Aristotele, realizing Ivan was close to uncovering who they worked for, turned himself into the culprit for the murder. Additionally, he began creating rumors about a revival of the Strigolniki Sect. While the Assassin presence in Russia continued throughout the Russian Empire, in the late 19th century, the Russian Assassins became known to the public as the Narodnaya Volya. They repeatedly attempted the assassination of Tsar Alexander III, with one such instance including the Assassin Nikolai Orelov, who was sent alone to kill the Tsar. In the ensuing fight, the train that they were on derailed, causing the Borki train disaster. However, Nikolai was unable to kill the Tsar, as Alexander was in possession of the Russian Imperial Sceptre, a Staff of Eden, to which he easily defeated the Assassin. However, the Tsar spared Nikolai. In 1908, the Russian Assassins were involved in the Tunguska event, where they enlisted the aid of scientist Nikola Tesla to broadcast electricity to the Tunguska facility where the Templars were holding another artifact. However, just as Nikolai was to grab the Imperial Sceptre – stolen from the Russian royal family by Grigori Rasputin – Tesla proceeded with the plan, destroying the area and ultimately leaving Orelov as the only survivor, though Nikolai sustained various wounds. During the Russian Revolution, the Russian Assassins supported the Bolsheviks, but eventually lost their control of the revolution.

  • Russians have a unique character that is expressed in very different ways. They are a very angry nation. When they are happy they are sad and when they are sad...they are sad. They also have a weird personality and appearance. Russians associate with Ukraine, though the latter often go hunting for Russians in the winter. Hot people live in Russia because it is cold there, at least in some places. Some of the hot people look suspiciously like bears. Some of these hot bears moved to the Americas. Despite high concentration of the aforementioned hot people, nobody willingly moves to Russia, unless they happen to be obscure African nationals or Chechenistanians who are answering call of nature to lay eggs there. Chinese people and Koreans move there only because they prohibited by law to form a 6th level of vertical human habitat, and to lay their eggs there. This why Russia also known as The Motherland. Jews used to make up Russia's ninja army, and also move to Russia to lay their eggs there, but have since moved away to Israel or Turkmenistan, depending on whether they smart or hungry corresponsively. Hot Russians speak hot Russian language, which won't let them say the word that sounds like 'bee' in any form. However, this deficit enabled them to create such masterpieces as Tetris and Harry Potter. Wodka, a magical variety of cheese which hails from the Russian serengeti, better known to the uninitiated as vodka. There have been plans in the pipeline to replace Russia with another ocean, as Russia mostly big and pointless and the ocean breeze would make Central Asia a much nicer place to. Part of this plan was actually carried out, but as soon as Neorusso Sea iced over, nobody could tell difference, except for some angry giraffes, which have since attempted to form their own branch of the Russian tree, though they have not yet succeeded, because they like to call it Chechnya. Russia drastically changed upon the announcement of Catholic Church acknowledgement of the existence of little dots. It also experienced another paradigm shift when people realized that Russia, big as it, was not a continent, and that Caspian Sea not filled with cream cheese. Russia has long been a staunch supporter of capitalism and democracy throughout the world. Their economic status declined since cold war, a historical period when Communist America and Democratic Russia stopped talking to each other after they couldn't agree on a strategy for hunting down worldwide terrorist groups like the muppets and the actors guild of Hollywood.

  • Russia (, Rossiya; pronounced ), also the Russian Federation (Росси́йская Федера́ция, Rossiyskaya Federatsiya; ,(Russian language) ), is a transcontinental country extending over much of northern Eurasia (Asia and Europe). With an area of 17,075,400 km², Russia is the largest country in the world, covering almost twice the total (land and sea) area of the next-largest country, Canada, and has significant mineral and energy resources. Russia has the world's ninth-largest population. Russia shares land borders with the following countries (counter-clockwise from northwest to southeast): Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and North Korea. It is also close to the United States (Alaska state), Sweden, and Japan across relatively small stretches of water (the Bering Strait, the Baltic Sea, and La Pérouse Strait, respectively). Formerly the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR), a republic of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), Russia became the Russian Federation following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991. After the Soviet era, the area, population, and industrial production of the Soviet Union (then one of the world's two Cold War superpowers, the other superpower being the United States) that were located in Russia passed on to the Russian Federation. After the breakup of the Soviet Union, the newly-independent Russian Federation emerged as a great power (although it is also considered to be an energy superpower). Russia is considered the Soviet Union's successor state in diplomatic matters (see Russia's membership in the United Nations) and is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. It is also one of the five recognized nuclear weapons states and possesses the world's largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction (see Russia and weapons of mass destruction). Russia is the leading nation of the Commonwealth of Independent States, a member of the G8 as well as other international organisations.
  • Russia was a nation formed from medieval kingdoms dating back to the 9th century. It was involved in World War I, but pulled out in 1917 following the October revolution. By 1922, the newly established Russian RSFSR along with the Ukrainian SSR formed what would become the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics or USSR. At its height in the mid-twentieth century the Soviet Union was a massive economic, industrial and military power. In 1991, following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation instated a 'Democratic government'. In 1992 representatives of the new Russian State signed the Partnership for Peace. Shortly after though began the War in Chechnya when the large group of Islamic Separatists demanded complete autonomy from the Russian Federation in which the demand would be refused. Despite this, there have been several minor tensions between Russia and NATO, such as the controversy of the 2008 South Ossetia War and political and territorial disputes with the Baltic States, the most recent of which is the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula into the Russian Federation.

In 1917, a revolution overthrew the monarchy, which was organized by the German Empire to take it out of the war. A communist Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic was established. In 1922, it joined with other communist states to create the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, or Soviet Union. Joseph Stalin's regime was marred with political genocide and state terrorism. In 1939, the Soviet Union signed a neutrality pact with Nazi Germany during World War II. But in 1941, Adolf Hitler broke the pact and invaded Russia. While the German Army managed to come a few miles from the capital of Moscow, the Nazis were severely defeated at Stalingrad and the tide of the war had turned. After the end of the war, the Soviet Union became a severe rival of the United States to achieve dominance in the world, especially the "arms race" and the race to land on the Moon. While the Soviets were the first to launch a satellite and astronaut in space, the U.S. were the first to land man on the moon. A nuclear war nearly erupted in 1962 between the Soviet Union and US during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Russia was discovered to have been arming Cuba, a fellow communist state, with nuclear missiles. US President John F. Kennedy threatened Russia to withdraw the missiles, and a war was avoided. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and subsequent turmoil caused thousands of people to emigrate to the United States, especially to New York City, so naturally the detectives of the NYPD have dealt with Russian immigrants. In 1993, a Russian mail-order bride was suspected in the murder of the owner of a meat company. (L&O: "The Pursuit of Happiness") A year later, the Chief Financial Officer at a baby food company was murdered, and the initial suspects were the Russian mob. (L&O: "Old Friends") In 2000, the Special Victims Unit investigated Russian escorts Katya Ivanova and Sonya Petrovich in the murder of millionaire Andrew Harlin. (SVU: "Russian Love Poem") In 2004, the Major Case Squad investigated the beheading of the daughter of a jailed Russian mob boss, Ilana Yushka. (CI: "Maledictus") In 2007, reporter Josh Lemle was poisoned with Polonium-210, and it was initially suspected that his murder was connected to his reporting extensively on events in Russia. In 2008, Detective Elliot Stabler infiltrated a smuggling ring run by Russian-born Andre Bushido. The brutal Bushido had already killed 12 other people and during the course of his excursion undercover, Stabler nearly became victim number thirteen when Bushido shot him twice in the chest and arm. (SVU: "Wildlife") In 2014, Russian, under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, illegally invaded the Ukraine.
Under Tsar Mikhail, several uprisings were quelled within the country, and the populist Bolshevik party was shut down and its prominent leader Vladimir Lenin was sent to a gulag in western Siberia. In 1918, Russia was summarily defeated by Germany. Determined to preserve his legacy, Tsar Mikhail signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk and relinquished all claims to several territories to Eastern Europe. As a result of Russia losing its territory and breaking up its empire, a civil war erupted. The Russian government quelled the uprising, but only to sow further unrest in the next several years. After the end of the Great War, the Russian government did not enter membership to the European Trade Organization. By 1921, several civil wars erupted across Russia in reaction to the oppressive rule of Tsar Mikhail. In response Russian shock troopers were dispatch to lay down the uprisings. Soon after, twelve French spies were discovered in Russia for allegedly encouraging the insurrections and were captured and executed without trial. This discovery exacerbated Russia's relationship with Western Europe, in which the Russian government became weary of outside influence on the Russian people. By September 1921, Russia began to cut off all communications to the outside world and pursued a period of isolationism. As a result, the massively long, fortified barrier known as the Red Curtain was constructed on the Russian-European border. Given Europe's prosperity by the ETO economic bloc and the United European Defense military bloc only further antagonized the Russians. In 1926, reports of unusual activity in Siberia sparked the concern and curiosity of the Russian government. An investigation team was dispatched to Siberia, where they first witnessed the existence of the Chimera during their attack on several villages. In awe of the advanced technology of the Chimera, the Russian government saw the potential in obtaining the Chimeran technology for their selfish hopes of dominating scientific progress over the West and the Russian population. By 1927, the Russian military was mobilized against the Chimera, leaving a majority of the country undefended. Despite the small forces the Chimera have, they were able to overcome Russian military forces and easily infecting and converting thousands of human soldiers to the Chimeran virus. Desperately to turn the tide of the war, the Russian government sought in finding a cure. In this endeavor, Russian scientist Dr. Fyodor Malikov led promising results in creating an experimental vaccine that indicated to resist the Chimeran virus. The government ordered a mandatory vaccination of all surviving soldiers, despite the unknown long-term effects. In a very short time, the soldiers had received the injections. Initially, the vaccine was proved to be a success as the soldiers were immune from turning into Chimera by the Chimeran "Crawler" strain and also showing incredible skills in fighting the Chimera. However, some soldiers began exhibiting signs of extremely violent behavior and began abandoning their posts. Within a few months, the soldiers began to mutate, taking on some of the physical characteristics of the Chimera and attacking their fellow soldiers. These changed soldiers banded together, leaving bloody handprints on their victims and referring to themselves as the Cloven. Seemingly possessing their motives, the Cloven were hostile to both Chimera and human alike. By September 1930, the vaccinated soldiers went AWOL and banded in small groups to terrorize the countryside. Caught between the Cloven and the Chimera, the Russian military was devastated. From the 1930s to the 1940s, Russia was entirely conquered by the Chimera after European intelligence agencies discovered large numbers of ghost towns, abandoned cities and other strange phenomenons reported coming from the country. The only trace of life coming from inside Russia was a looping radio transmission, broadcasting propaganda to 12,000 radio stations with the words: "Brotherhood, strength, and fortitude...in the face of the angry night." By December 1949, enforced from millions of converted humans, the Chimera broke through the Red Curtain and quickly overrun Europe. Following the events of Operation Overstrike in mid-1951, Allied forces have been fighting closer to the remnants of the Red Curtain, and by 1953 they are preparing to enter into Russia.

  • Russia emerged from the early medieval period as an absolute monarchy, proclaiming itself an Empire in 1721. The Cold War existed between the Soviet Union and the West from 1947, although isolated incidents of "accidental" friendly fire began in early 1945, to the "discharge" (разрядка) in late 1980's and the country's reorganisation in 1991.
  • The first films seen in the Russian Empire were brought in by the Lumière brothers, who exhibited films in Moscow and St. Petersburg in May 1896. That same month, Lumière cameraman Camille Cerf made the first film in Russia, recording the coronation of Nicholas II at the Kremlin. During World War I, imports dropped drastically, and Russian filmmakers turned out anti-German, nationalistic films. In 1916, 499 films were made in Russia, more than three times the number of just three years earlier. The Russian Revolution brought more change, with a number of films with anti-Tsarist themes. The last significant film of the era, made in 1917, Father Sergius would become the first new film release of the Soviet era. Although Russian was the dominant language in films during the Soviet era, the cinema of the Soviet Union encompassed films of the Armenian SSR, Georgian SSR, Ukrainian SSR, and, to a lesser degree, Lithuanian SSR, Byelorussian SSR and Moldavian SSR. For much of the Soviet Union's history, with notable exceptions in the 1920s and the late 1980s, film content was heavily circumscribed and subject to censorship and bureaucratic state control. Despite this, Soviet films achieved significant critical success from the 1950s onwards partly as a result, similar to the cinema of other Eastern Bloc countries, for reflecting the tension between independent creativity and state-directed outcomes. However, with the consolidation of Stalinist power in the Soviet Union, and the emergence of Socialist realism as state policy, which carried over from painting and sculpture into filmmaking, Soviet film became subject to almost total state control. In the late 1950s and early 1960s Soviet film-makers were given a less constricted environment, and while censorship remained, films emerged which began to be recognised outside the Soviet bloc.

  • Despite its progression towards democratization and modernization, Russia has yet to create a widely-respected image that is free of Soviet-era stereotypes and untainted by Western culture and influence. According to a 2004 poll by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), 16 out of the 33 countries surveyed had a negative view of Russia and its influence in the world. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Russian Federation has been mired in a series of obstacles such as: a fledgling market-economy, a highly controversial democratic system, and a large supply of loosely regulated nuclear materials. As a result, public diplomacy efforts have stalled. Although efforts are currently underway to project a more positive image, Russia still faces a number of challenges to overcoming its unfavorable reputation. Some of the key issues adversely affecting Russia’s pubic diplomacy efforts are a controversial crackdown on the media, involvement in Chechnya and Kosovo, opposition to NATO expansion, an increasing control on energy, and an allegedly authoritarian regime.
  • Russia is a nation in Europe and Asia owned by Vladimir Putin, the clone of Julius Caesar. It's citizens hate the Drunken Peasants podcast on Podbean & iTunes, where it doesn't rank high at all, as described on an early episode of the show. This clearly has nothing to do with a language barrier. Everyone there is an anthropomorphic bear wearing an ushanka while drinking vodka on unicycle on his way to work murdering gay people.

Thousands of abnormals came to the surface through the opening.
Now, however, Russia is changing, awakening. It is beginning to look outwards, towards the best that the rest of the world has to offer in terms of ideas, culture and might. These things must be introduced carefully, to avoid the ills of free-thinking that beset some Western nations. When Russia does fully realise its strength, however, it will be formidable indeed. It has boundless resources to draw upon, and the steadfast courage of its people to bolster its armies. It can be a formidable foe, and a difficult one for an enemy to attack. One thing that Russia does have is endless space, and the lack of apparently defensible frontiers actually becomes a defence in itself. Invaders can be lured deep into the steppes, and left to the mercies of “General Winter” and Russia’s endless, empty lands. To the west lies the wealth of Europe and access to the wider world through a port on the Baltic. That the troublesome Swedes are in the way is a bonus, for they will have to be crushed! To the south, there are fellow Slavs and Orthodox Christians in the Balkans to be incorporated into a Greater Russian empire. The infidel Turks have lands and wealth aplenty too, but possibly the strength to defend them. And beyond, there is a wider world awaiting conquest by the sons of the Mother Russia.

Russian armies have marched against Napoleon twice, and both times they were repelled with heavy casualties on both sides. The third clash, which is about to come in 1812, will be completely different. Belorussian forests and endless Russian steppes are quite different from the fields of Europe with their well-developed road networks and numerous villages. And the Russian peasant will not allow himself to be exploited by an enemy army - instead he will rather grab his axe and escape to the nearest forest. With the forest behind them filled with partisans, and the Russian army endlessly retreating in front of them, the French can look forward to a truly unique experience...

  • Russia has competed at the modern Olympic Games on many occasions, but as different nations in its history. As the Russian Empire, the nation first competed at the 1900 Games, and returned again in 1908 and 1912. After the Russian revolution in 1917, and the subsequent establishment of the Soviet Union in 1922, it would be forty years until Russian athletes once again competed at the Olympics, as part of the Soviet Union at the 1952 Summer Olympics. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia competed as part of the Unified Team in 1992, and finally returned once again as Russia at the 1994 Winter Olympics. The Soviet Union hosted the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, and Russia will host the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Russian athletes have won a total of 324 medals (316 since 1994) at the Summer Olympic Games and another 76 at the Winter Olympic Games. Russia is, according to its constitution, defined as a federal semi-presidential republic. However this definition has, due to the dominant position of the Romanov-family in politics and society, become more or less only official, since the family runs a more or less authoritarian regime. Civil rights and political liberties in the country are somewhat restricted and in 2015 Freedom House defined Russia as having a Heavily authoritarian regime and that the situation of democracy in the country was critical. The government however enjoys strong popular support and Russians are frequently heard saying, that they value security, stability and a strong country and are willing to give up some political freedom in order to achieve this. Immense economic growth and the re-establishment of Russia's military power in Eurasia during the last decade has also contributed to making Russians very accepting of the Romanov-regime. The Russian economy ranks high both by nominal GDP and purchasing power parity. Russia's extensive mineral and energy resources have made it one of the largest producers of oil and natural gas globally. The year 2015 was a record year of growth for the Russian economy, when the GDP grew by a staggering 19,60%. Favorable fuel prices as well as a low inflation has kept the growth rate of the economy at 10-12% per year since 2010. Since January 2016, Russia suffers from a negative unemployment rate, which means that there are currently about 52,000 (Q2,2016) more jobs on offer than there are available labor force. The country is a recognized nuclear weapons state and possesses a large stockpile of modern weapons of mass destruction. About 81 percent of the population are ethnic Russians. Russia is recognized by the United Nations and the republics of the former Soviet Union as being the successor state and the continuing legal personality of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (1922-1991).

  • Russia, officially the Russian Federation (Esperanto: Rusa Federacio; Russian: Русская Федерация, Russkaya Federatsiya), is a member state of the European Federation. Its capital is Moscow.
  • Founded in the 12th century, the Principality of Muscovy, was able to emerge from over 200 years of Mongol domination (13th-15th centuries) and to gradually conquer and absorb surrounding principalities. In the early 17th century, a new Romanov Dynasty continued this policy of expansion across Siberia to the Pacific. Under PETER I (ruled 1682-1725), hegemony was extended to the Baltic Sea and the country was renamed the Russian Empire. During the 19th century, more territorial acquisitions were made in Europe and Asia. Defeat in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05 contributed to the Revolution of 1905, which resulted in the formation of a parliament and other reforms. Repeated devastating defeats of the Russian army in World War I led to widespread rioting in the major cities of the Russian Empire and to the overthrow in 1917 of the imperial household. The Communists under Vladimir LENIN seized power soon after and formed the USSR. The brutal rule of Iosif STALIN (1928-53) strengthened Communist rule and Russian dominance of the Soviet Union at a cost of tens of millions of lives. The Soviet economy and society stagnated in the following decades until General Secretary Mikhail GORBACHEV (1985-91) introduced glasnost (openness) and perestroika (restructuring) in an attempt to modernize Communism, but his initiatives inadvertently released forces that by December 1991 splintered the USSR into Russia and 14 other independent republics. Since then, Russia has shifted its post-Soviet democratic ambitions in favor of a centralized semi-authoritarian state whose legitimacy is buttressed, in part, by carefully managed national elections, former President PUTIN's genuine popularity, and the prudent management of Russia's windfall energy wealth. Russia has severely disabled a Chechen rebel movement, although violence still occurs throughout the North Caucasus. See also: Soviet Union

It was secretly preparing to openly turn back into the Soviet Union (which faked its fall) when no one knew about it. Homer got into trouble with them while he was in the navy. In 1721, Peter I proclaimed Russia to be an empire, and formed Imperial Russia. In 1917, the short lived Russian Republic controlled the territory of Imperial Russia after Nicholas II was forced to abdicate by the February Revolution. The Russian Republic was dissolved less than eight months later following the October Revolution, and the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic was formed. The Soviet Union was formed in 1922 and lasted until it was dissolved in 1991. The Russian Federation assumed the Soviet Union's rights and obligations. On August 25, 1931, Marty McFly used the name of the film From Russia with Love to enter the El Kid speakeasy. On October 24, 1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis had been going on for nearly ten days, and many people thought the world would end that week. Colonel Lomax and the retired Lieutenant General Leslie Groves went to Doc Brown's mansion to offer Emmett Brown a large sum of money to invent a time machine, in order to prevent it from ever happening. Emmett Brown showed them his prototype time machine, the temporal field capacitor. After a test, the two men are interested, and Groves informs Emmett that he'll never have to worry about funding again. After Lomax and Groves left, Emmett had worries that he could be ushering in an arms race through time, coupled with his regrets about ushering in the nuclear arms race of the Cold War through his participation in the Manhattan Project. He had a nightmare that saw Marty McFly travel from 1982, speaking Russian. He dreamed that he went to the future in the DeLorean time machine and saw the Soviet Union and the United States bringing soldiers through time to fight an unending war, as the two sides would always know the outcome and would continue to try to stop it. After waking up the next day, Doc sent a letter to himself through the temporal field capacitor to August 1, 1962, when he knew that he and his dog Copernicus would be safe asleep in the fireproof lab in Doc's garage. The process of sending the letter so far back in time led to a buildup of flux energy, leading to an electrical fire, destroying Doc Brown's mansion. In the new timeline, the two men never talk to Doc Brown, as they believe him to be an insurance thief.

Despite the end of the Cold War, political tension between the Western Powers and the Russian Federation remains. In 2000, when the Biliskner, infected by Replicators, crashed on Earth and disabled the Russian submarine Blackbird, the Russians suspected American foul play. (SG1: "Small Victories") However, the Russians recovered the alpha Stargate (which SG-1 had beamed aboard the Biliskner to escape the Replicators) from the ocean and created their own Stargate program with help of Colonel Harold Maybourne. When the program went disastrously wrong, the United States was asked for help and SG-1 went in to do things right again. (SG1: "Watergate") The Russians agreed to end their Stargate program in exchange for the continued sharing of information and technology. (SG1: "Chain Reaction") In 2002, Dr. Meredith Rodney McKay was reassigned to Russia as possible punishment for him insulting Major Samantha Carter and also believing that her teammate, Teal'c of Chulak could not be retrieved from within the Stargate. McKay spent the four months there, presumably working at either the Russian Stargate facility or another unidentified Russian Base before being recalled back to the US by the Pentagon and reassigned albeit temporarily to the SGC who were experiencing problems with their Stargate. (SG1: "48 Hours", "Redemption, Part 1") They also sent personnel to Atlantis.
  • During the 20th century, the Soviet Union embarked upon a program of space exploration, engaging in the space race with its rival, the United States. Despite this, legacies of Russian live on, Alexei Stukov speaking in a Russian accent.

  • The Russian Federation, known as Russia, is a semi-presidential republic extending over much of northern Europe and northern Asia. It comprises 83 federal subjects, and is the largest country in the world in terms of geographical borders. After a period of rule under various smaller kingdoms, the 18th Century saw the rise of the unified Russian Empire as the center of a substantial land-empire under the absolute rule of the tsar. However, after its disastrous defeat in World War I, Russia fell into revolution in 1917, and then a civil war that raged into the 1920s that saw the fall of the monarchy and the rise of a communist state. In short order Russia became the leading constituent of the Soviet Union, which emerged from World War II as one of two global superpowers, and was locked in a Cold War with the United States and its allies. The Soviet Union fell in 1991. Russia became the center of a (more or less) democratic federation, and re-emerged as a major economic power on the world stage throughout the beginning of the 21st Century.

  • Russia was picked as the civilization for Zoey during her civilization game against the others. Zoey spawned north of the Mayan civilization, which belonged to Hannah. Zoey proceeded to build a city above Hannah's first city to block her in. When the Mayans founded the city of Risa near horses, Zoey declared them Russian property, and proceeded to take the city. Quickly defeating the city, Zoey went on to attempt the conquest of the Mayan capital, thereby knocking Hannah out of the game. When Hannah's Mayan pikemen managed to hold off against the Russian horsemen, Zoey's war campaign resulted in a standoff along the Russian/Mayan border. Among the other players, Zoey stood out the most because her civilization was the only one that hadn't researched writing; and as a result, at episode 15 her literacy was still at zero. She defended this by saying that her people didn't need to learn how to read if she was going to "Deathstab" everything. Zoey and Hannah's war eventually died down, and the two made a peace treaty. Zoey's science began to slowly increase, allowing her to start to catch up on science, although it is believed by many that she will never be able to catch up. In spite of this, Zoey began focusing her energy on claiming city states and using them to expand her empire.
