  • Known as Belselk in the original Wild Arms, Berserk is the classic example of the power muscle you would see in other games. He found pleasure in destruction, and was the one behind Adlehyde's total destruction following the Ruin festival. He successfully abducted Lolithia, Barbados, and Diablo from the festival, enlisting the help of other demons. His main objective in destroying Adlehyde was to steal Cecilia's tear drop, which she gives willingly. Following this, he is challenged by Jack, and loses. He calls off his attack following the battle. We next see him in several cutscenes involving the cocoon of Mother. He succeeds in destroying one of the statues that keep Mother's heart bound, and keeping her sealed. He siks Orga Widow on the team in an effort to distract them, but fails in this respect, also. (In Alter Code: F, he battles them himself.) He is present when Mother is reborn, and witnesses her proclamation to destroy Filgaia. While her message floors Zeikfried, it has little effect on Berserk, who delights in destruction and pain. Following the Mt. Zenom failure, he begins to quickly lose favour in the Photosphere. Zeikfried and the other Quarter Knights reprimand him (especially Lady Harken, who offers to destroy the trio herself), and Berserk swears revenge on the trio for his embarrassments. Floating the rumour of treasure at the Volcannon Trap to others, including Calamity Jane Maxwell, he uses the power stations there to attempt to destroy the trio in a literal trap set especially for them. Jane, however, destroys the power stations, severely weakening him. The trio defeat Berserk again, who is extremely embarrassed by his defeat. Before returning to the Photosphere however, he is killed by Boomerang, who comments on his failures and slices him in half with the Saber Fang. In Alter Code: F, Berserk returns to do battle with the trio a final time in Malduke, having been revived by Zeikfried as a diversion so he could destroy Filgaia. He is defeated a fourth time.

Activating Berserk improves the Assault's melee abilities for a short duration, boosting Melee damage and Protection as well as Ground Speed, helping them stay in range of their target. Proper use of the Berserk device can help turn the tables in a variety of situations, particularily in PvP missions - blocking an opposing melee Recon, then activating Berserk while wielding the Impact Hammer can quickly teach them to find a better target. Likewise, often times Assaults from both teams will converge upon a Control Point, activate Range Shield, and proceed to beat each other with melee weapons - activating Berserk instead of the shield could be a key advantage. The Berserk device is part of the 'Overdrive' group - an Assault cannot activate an Overdrive device while another Overdrive is still active. A specific epic variant of Berserk is available for purchase at level 36 from Dome City's Assault Gear vendor for 50 Conquest Tokens. Uncommon, rare, and other epic variants are occasionally awarded upon successful completion of PvE and PvP missions.

  • Berserk is a combat orientated dark gift that Kain gains and utilises in Blood Omen 2. As with other 'combat' dark gifts, Berserk required Kain's Rage Bar to be filled to a certain level (approx two-thirds filled) before it could be used. Once Kain had filled the Rage bar to the required level, Kain and his would glow red indicating the ability was ready to be used. Once activated, Berserk consisted of a flurry of fast, "devastating" attacks, ending with the last strike and enemy falling away in slow motion. Berserk was essentially an upgrade of Kain's existing combat Dark Gift, Fury, which it effectively superseded. The animation of Kain's Berserk 'combo' varied depending upon the weapon he wielded whilst using it[BO2].   • The Black Swordsman walks the land, a brooding, blood-stained figure. His name is Guts, and wherever he goes, the demons from Hell follow. Guts bears the cursed brand of sacrifice on the back of his neck, which draws the demons to him -- but he is also one the strongest men in the world and owns a very big sword, and when the demons find him, their deaths aren't pretty. Guts is a warrior haunted by his past; namely, the events of his life that ended in the loss of his arm, his eye, and everyone he cared about. He walks the Earth seeking only one thing: vengeance against Griffith, an old friend who betrayed Guts and sacrificed him in aid of his own rebirth. Griffith became a powerful and near-godlike demon as a result, so Guts' revenge will not be gained easily. Guts loves the challenge, though, since he grew up on battlefields. Born from the womb of a hanged woman, Guts had to fend for himself from the moment he hit the (gallows) ground -- he pretty much became a mercenary the moment he learned to walk. He wears fearsome armor, has a cannon where his arm used to be, and carries the Dragonslayer sword on his back wherever he goes. Not to be confused with the classic arcade game, Berserk -- also known as Kenpuu Denki (Sword Wind Chronicle) Berserk in Japan -- is an ongoing manga series by Kentaro Miura set in The Dung Ages country of Midland. After three volumes establishing the setting, Guts, and Big Bad Cosmic Horror the Godhand, the story goes into an eleven-volumes-long flashback which reveals the details of Guts' horrific childhood and how he was conscripted into the Band of the Hawk, a mercenary band led by the charismatic idealist Griffith. The group eventually becomes the most successful and celebrated force in Midland -- but since this series is far on the "cynical" end of the Sliding Scale, the success doesn't last. Aside from Griffith, the Band of the Hawk arc sets up the other major characters of the series: Casca, an ill-fated female mercenary who eventually becomes Guts' love interest; Nosferatu Zodd, a demonic but honorable Blood Knight who cements the reality of demons to both Guts and Griffith; and the Skull Knight, an enigmatic figure who opposes the Godhand. When Guts and Griffith's luck finally turns, the Band of the Hawk arc ends messily, and the series returns to the present day to show the deep-rooted effects of everything that happened in the previous arc. In later arcs Guts calms down somewhat, encounters non-demonic supernatural creatures and gathers a new, smaller group of companions; at the same time, Griffith slowly spreads his influence across the world. The series was adapted into a twenty-five episode anime that covered the opening and Band of the Hawk arcs -- which means that the anime ends at the single most depressing point of the manga thus far. The manga is still running in Japan (as well as America and every other country where it's allowed). In 2011, a new anime film trilogy based on the manga and produced by Studio 4°C was announced -- and it is the first part of a project that intends to fully adapt the manga's story. The first of the three movies, Berserk Golden Age Arc I: Egg of the Supreme Ruler, was released on February 4th, 2012. There's also a fangame created by the maker of Doom the Roguelike. Notably, despite technically being a Roguelike, it plays more like an arcade game than Nethack, having special moves and being an Endless Game where you fight a neverending series of enemies. Berserk is definitely not for children; it is one of the most violent Seinen series ever drawn, and it often verges on being pornography (God help if you actually get aroused by it).   • The berserk powerup (called berserk pack in the manuals) item resembles a regular medikit in a dark gray (rather than white) box. Containing advanced strength enhancers and stimulants, picking one up greatly increases the damage the player inflicts with his fists (ten times normal) and also fills the screen with a gradually decreasing red haze. Note that though the red haze disappears in seconds, the damage boost to fist attacks lasts till the player exits the level or dies.
