| abstract | - The National Census is a government count administered by the Office of Ethnic Affairs. The National Census consists of three forms that measure a variety of information. The first type of census is the "Ethnic Census" is which measures the gender, race/ethnicity and religion of the nation. The other census is the "Head Count Census" which measures the population of New Englia. The census was been taken every year except during the events of the Englian Civil War and the 30 years following the war's end; the next Census will be taken in 3215.
- Every 5 years, the Japanese Government conducts a national population census surveying the domestic population and households throughout the country. The next census is scheduled to take place in October 2005. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), anyone residing in Japan on October 1, regardless of nationality or race, must take part in the Census provided that they: (1) have been living in Japan for 3 months or more; or (2) are living in Japan on October 1 and plan to stay for 3 months or more. Foreign military personnel, diplomatic personnel and their respective dependents will not be among those counted in the census. Census officials will deliver and collect survey material from late September until around early October. All Census officials will be carrying National Census Official Identification (Kokusei Chosa-in Sho), so in the case of suspicion please verify this identification. The results of the Census will provide basic data for the planning of various aspects of Japanese social services including welfare, education, transport and housing. The Census questionnaire consists of a total of 17 subjects including sex, date of birth, employment conditions, travel to work/school and type of accommodation. There will be explanations available in various languages for those who cannot understand Japanese, so please ask the Census Official.
