In order to make Tavian stronger, he forced him to train constantly and beat him when he refused or did something wrong. This eventually caused Tavian to develop a severe inferiority complex, wanting to become stronger in order to earn his father's respect. After years of intense training, his skill with the force had improved, but not nearly enough to earn his father's respect. He then decided that if his skill with the force wouldn't make his father respect him, he would instead rely on his lightsaber skills to make up for it. His father found out about his insistance to use his skill with a lightsaber to compensate for his lack of skill with the force, so he decided to test him. He ordered Tavian to find and kill a Jedi. He soon found a Miraluka Jedi to kill. After an intense battle, Tavian emerged victorious. His father then ordered him to kill the Jedi, but Tavian couldn't bring himself to kill the Jedi. His father became outraged and shot Tavian with a blast of force lightning in order to punish him for his weakness. Tavian managed to block it with his lightsaber, but the power of his father's force lightning was too strong and his lightsaber exploded from the shear power of the force lightning, destroying both of his hands. His father then proceeded to kill Tavian, but the Jedi he had tried to kill the intercepted his father's lightsaber to save Tavian. His father then retreated and swore that he would someday kill both of them. The Jedi then decided to make Tavian his new padawan in order to potentially undo the psychological damage his father had caused him. He also offered to replace Tavian's destroyed hands. His master decided to evaluate Tavian's skills. He discovered that his skill with the force was below average. Tavian desperately wanted to prove himself against his master, so he repeatedly challenged him to one duel after another, but he lost every time. He eventually asked his master what his secret to getting stronger was. His master told him that because he lacked eyesight, he used the force to see, which gave him an extreme advantage. This gave Tavian an idea to highten his skill with both lightsaber combat and the force. That night, he took his masters lightsaber and cut out both of his eyes in order to force him to use the force to see like his master did. His master soon found out and asked Tavian why he blinded himself just to improve his skill with the force. Tavian told him that one thing his father taught him was that a true warrior will do anything they have to to get stronger. His master then realized that though his training had eliminated his corruption, it had actually increased his inferiority complex. Worried about what else Tavian would do to get stronger, his master refused to train him any further until he abandoned his desire for power. Tavian then came to the realization that his master was holding him back and severed all ties with the Jedi, including abandoning the cybernetic hands his master gave him. A short time later, Tavian's father managed to track down his master and tried to kill him. Just as he was about to deliver the killing blow, Tavian appeared. Seeing how strong Tavian had become, his father tried to persuade him to rejoin the Sith, including offering him ne superior prosthetics. His master tried to persuade him to stay with the Jedi. After a great deal of consideration, he decided that power was more important than protecting others and killed his master. Moments later, his father stabbed him in the back with his lightsaber. Tavian then dropped to the ground, seemingly dead. Moments later, Tavian used the force to pull the lightsaber from his back and propeled it through his father's heart, killing him. Tavian managed to crawl to a nearby town before losing consciousness. He was given medical attention and made a full recovery. He then destroyed the medic droid that healed him and stole the droid's hands and modified them to fit him. He later built pair of lightsabers from his master's and father's lightsabers and parts from the droid.
