  • The Sovereign-class cruiser was a class of guided missile cruisers that served in the UNSC Navy between 2563 and 2622. The Sovereign-class replaced the upgraded but obsolete Marathon-class cruiser a decade after the end of the Human-Covenant War, adopting newly available reverse-engineered technologies such as plasma fusion reactors and shield generators and integrating these directly into the design. This created a far more effective and efficient cruiser design than retrofitting them in after construction, as was the case with the Marathon-class.

The Sovereign-class served throughout the Remnant War (2553-2565), and later saw brief action in the Galactic War. The class was actively retired from 2619 onwards as it was replaced by the Lion-class cruiser. The last Sovereign-class cruiser, UNSC Serpent, was retired in November 2622.
