abstract
  • Hestin Varaka was one of the fourteen Jedi Masters who served on the Council of Masters. He was a male Twi'lek and a famed consular and diplomat. His teachings were philosophy and psychology. Varaka believed unwaveringly that the order always made the right choices and stood by the council's decision to exile Bryena for her crimes of passion and how she basked in the teachings of the Sith. Varaka was a senior master and held one of the six life-term places on the council. He was one of the survivors of the Great Jedi Split and the following Power Wars where the Sith fought the remains of the Jedi for galactic control. Varaka retreated to Telos II and built himself an underground palace of caverns and halls there he studied the Force and the Jedi and Sith war for power. He advised the meeting on Rolomayne IV and was the one that caused the melt-down on the planet to kill the Sith living there. Varaka left the conclave with a heavy heart and depression took him. He came to despise the other Jedi and allowed evil teachings to control and persuade him. He killed himself after learning of the destruction of Telos XI and the downfall of the Jedi order. Varaka may have fought in the Jedi Civil War owing to his hatred of the Sith. For a Jedi, he too often allowed his emotions to control him and often it was impulse and jealousy that lead him to act. His death saw all of the holocrons he had kept left in his enclave until the other masters arrived and took them to be hidden on Dantooine and Coruscant.
