During the conflict, he flew 300 combat missions as the leader of the Whirlwind Aces and shot down over 487 enemy pilots, becoming one of the most successful aces of the war. Bas, a pre-rebellion smuggler, joined the Alliance Starfighter Corps in 3 ABY and was stationed aboard the Valiant One as a member of Diamond Squadron under the command of Captain Mevis Sharp. Under her guidance, Bas steadily developed his prowess as a pilot and in 2 ABY, proved his skill during the ambush at Kal 9 when he destroyed numerous TIE fighters and crippled three frigates. He continued to serve with Diamond Squadron in several missions before being chosen by General Ten Corona to lead his own elite squadron–the Whirlwind Aces. As the leader of Whilrwind, Magden led some of the Alliance's most daring special operations flights against the Galactic Empire and shot down several famed Imperial aces, such as Gerin Rixler and Han Kilminster. He scored his 487th kill during Operation Blizzard when he shot down Ulrich Fost over Orto Plutonia; shortly after, he was shot down and killed by Aron Veisler of Regal Squadron.
