According to Nils, he and Ninian, upon crossing the threshold separating the dragons' realm from Elibe through the Dragon's Gate, found that the bulk of their strength had been atrophied. In order to conserve what little Quintessence was left within them and breathe the vastly unfamiliar air of Elibe, the siblings sealed their draconic power within Icestones and assumed human forms.
