Dogs were first bred because of the seasonal colorations of grey wolves; that is to say, in the Cold Season, the grey wolf is black, and in the Hot Season, the grey wolf is white, and it is grey during every other season. Humans believed that this was a sign from their god that these beasts were made for them, humans were "grey" creatures, neither evil nor good, neither fully beast nor fully spirit. These dogs were tamed by picking up orphaned wolves, feeding them scraps, and breeding together the friendliest of them. This eventually resulted in the greyhound. - Shiro (シロ Shiro?) is the white dog that appears four times barking in the background of the Bay Area stage from Final Fight. Shiro is a good friend of Sabu. In the SNES and GBA versions, each of the four dogs give a bonus to the player when standing in front of them: Shiro (or a similar dog) also appears in Guy's stage from Street Fighter Alpha 2 along with other Final Fight characters.

The heroe's need to recruit the dogs one by one in different places around the Grasslands, which makes them difficult to collect. If the five dogs are successfully collected, they will have a Unite Attack called Bow Wow Attack.
