Etheridge's debut came in 1949, when he competed at the famous Daytona Beach Road Course. Starting positions in the field of twenty-eight are unknown, but Etheridge tamed the tough track with a solid 10th place finish. Strangely, Etheridge didn't return to the sport until 1967, when he competed in three events. It was a mixed bag of a season for Etheridge, failing to finish all three of his series starts, yet still managing two top-twenty runs. Those two top-twenties were a 16th at Macon and a 13th at Savannah. Etheridge's final career start would come in the 1969 season, when he competed at Columbia. Starting 24th in the field of twenty-five, Etheridge crashed seven laps into the race and also finished 24th.
