Door Valdez’ capaciteiten kon maar liefst meer dan 86% van al het personeel en de overlevende SpecForces veilig van Hoth ontsnappen. Net vooraleer de Battle of Hoth begon gaf de charismatische Valdez de opdracht dat groepen 7 en 10 achter zouden blijven om de speeders te besturen. Hij gaf ook mee dat van zodra elk Transportschip volgeladen was, de schepen meteen konden vertrekken. In zijn vrije tijd was Valdez een poëtische muzikant.
