  • Quickening was a female Elemental created and sent out into the world by her father, the King of the Silver River, to stop Uhl Belk from turning the world to stone. Traveling from the Silver River, she went first to Culhaven, where she restored the Meade Gardens as a gift to the Dwarves, whose lands were occupied by the Federation. Along her journey Quickening recruited several allies: Pe Ell, who had been sent by Rimmer Dall to kill her; Morgan Leah, who along the way fell madly in love with her; and Walker Boh, whom she put on the path to become a Druid after healing him from the poison of the Asphinx. At the end of her quest, Quickening fell upon Pe Ell's weapon, the Stiehl, of her own volition, as it was the only weapon that could hurt her. She sacrificed herself to heal the land of Eldwist and to stop Uhl Belk's advance into the Four Lands. Her sacrifice also mended the broken Sword of Leah, her final act as a gift of love to the Highlander.
  • It was as though new life was flowing through her, sending sparks of energy to the tips of her fingers and toes, a feeling like nothing she’d experienced before. Perched high on the inn balcony at Stormspire, Ayrma gingerly touched her rounded stomach. For the first time – the very first time – the child moved. And there was noone nearby to share it with but an ethereal innkeeper. Ayrma rose from her seat and tried the shift again, Kaldorei to stormcrow, and this time it worked. Worked completely, an effortless shift from one form to the next rather than the painful transformations of the previous days. Somehow, without the aid of a mentor or teacher, she’d learned what she once thought beyond her grasp. Only the very powerful among the druids at home could fly. She’d never been one of the powerful, yet here she was, hanging in midair above the balcony. The changes were happening faster than she thought possible, and without a clear explanation. The child moved again. Within the form of the stormcrow it was uncomfortable. Unborn life probably wasn’t supposed to deal with the stress of such changes – cat, bear, crow, Kaldorei, but what was the child? A mixing of druidic lines and of the unknown: the fel energies of the Outland. Wherever she went, only more questions but this time, at least, she knew the child was growing, thriving. She slipped effortlessly back into her true form and sat again, drained of energy and too enthralled with the simple movements of an unborn child to consider the rest of the picture.

  • "Quickening" is the eighth episode of the third season of Angel and the fifty-second episode overall. Written by Jeffrey Bell and directed by Skip Schoolnik, it was originally broadcast on November 12, 2001 on the WB network. As Darla's labor contractions become more painful and frequent, Angel and his group must do everything in their power to protect Darla when Linwood Morrow, another evil at Wolfram & Hart, assigns the competitive Lilah Morgan and Gavin Park to launch a full-scale attack at the hotel to take mother and baby, while a vampire cult also targets Angel and the group thinking that the impending birth will be the Miracle Child. Meanwhile, the vampire hunter-killer Daniel Holtz wakens from a deep-freeze hibernation brought on by a non-corporeal, time-traveling demon, named Sahjhan, who wants him to find and kill both Angel and Darla.
