  • Halflings are clever, capable, and resourceful survivors. They are notoriously curious, and show a daring that many larger people can't match. They can be lured by wealth, but tend to spend rather than hoard. Halflings have ruddy skin, hair that is black and straight, and brown or black eyes. Halfling men often grow long sideburns, but rarely beards or mustaches. They prefer practical clothing, and would rather wear a comfortable shirt than jewelry. Halflings stand about 3 feet tall, and commonly live to see 150.

  • The Halfling of Eberron varies from nomadic dinosaur riding barbarians to wily urban merchants and professionals. With the broad expanse of the Talenta Plains, the shelter of urban havens spread across Khorvaire and the potency of House Jorasco and House Ghallanda the halflings are as pervasive as any other racial group across Khorvaire.
  • Halflings appear to be similar to half-elves of other series. With physical characteristic of elves and humans.
  • While their small stature generally keeps halflings out of the spotlight in human settlements, the small folk have nevertheless found a niche for themselves and play an important role in Golarion.

  • Halflings, also known as Hin amongst themselves or the "good folk" amongst other races, or the "quick folk" and "sly folk" were humanoid creatures similar in shape to humans, who halflings called the "Big Folk,", "Manyhanded" or "Hurbryn" but around half their size. Halflings got along well with most of the other races and were known for their curiosity and tendency to collect things. The term "halfling" was derived from the fact that a halfling was around half of the size of a human, but otherwise very similar in appearance.
  • Old Common term: Hobniz
  • Halfling was one of the many terms used by men to describe Hobbits in the books.
  • Generally a peaceful race halflings will rarely start any sort of conflict, though when forced they will defend themselves with a surprising ferocity and resourcefulness. Their lifestyle lends itself well to agriculture and most who live in the halfling village of Rindol Field are indeed farmers. While the majority of halflings choose to stay close to their homes, it is not uncommon to see them in adventuring parties across Thestra. Halflings have been known to be Warriors, Rangers, Rogues, Bards, Clerics and Druids.
  • Haflings are a race of small folk who typically live in large family groups in rural settings. To some they seem shy and reclusive, but can be known to possess immense courage in the face of adversity. Some halflings have integrated into human society, where their quick feet and ability to stay out of trouble becomes useful.
  • Halflings are a rare species that occurs when a faerie fraternizes with a human. These hybrids possess limited fae powers and have high attraction to and from the supernatural. They also have "fairy godparents" to protect and guide them. Halflings are introduced in the first season of the HBO original series True Blood, though they, like faeries in general, would not be identified until the series' third season, nor given a specific name until the fifth season. __TOC__
  • Halflings are a race of short & gluttonous humanoid creatures. Like humans they have five fingers on each hand, but only four toes on each foot. In addition, their feet are covered in coarse hair. They inhabit several domains, Mellow Hills and Briarthorn Burrows among them. They live in small homes with round doors, built partially underground, which usually have grass roofs.
  • Hobbits or Halflings are a race of short human-like folk inhabiting various realms, primarily the Shire in western Middle-earth. As the name implies, halflings are roughly half the size of a human, though otherwise very similar in appearance. They are typically good-natured homebodies with a passionate love for food and family. However, their curious nature sometimes leads them into adventure, where their small stature, charm and good luck make them well-suited for the role of thief. In areas where hobbits and humans coexist, hobbits refer to humans as "Big Folk" and are themselves often admirably called "Little Folk".

  • Halflings are a small race known for their resourcefulness, quick wits, and steady nerves. They are practical and down-to-earth, and pursue the adventurer's life for reasons of community, friendship, wanderlust, or curiosity. Halfling adventurers are brave and faithful companions, relying on stealth and trickery in battle rather than raw might or magic.
  • Halflings are very small and rapid humanoid creatures. Because of their incredible speed and their small size, they are often trained in the art of thievery, and become high-level thieves. Therefore, most of them aren't regarded as friends by the other races of the world. Halflings are on average three feet tall.
  • A halfling is a hybrid of human and faery ancestry.
  • Halflings receive the following racial traits. Bold Halflings gain a +5 racial bonus to saving throws to end effects caused by fear keyword powers. Nimble Reaction Halflings gain a +2 racial bonus to AC against opportunity attacks. Second Chance Halflings gain second chance as an encounter power.
  • Stirlanders in the southern and central parts of the province are particularly notable for their dislike of Halflings - resenting the 1500-year-old decision that stole their best farmland (The Moot) and gave it to the "Shorties", and the belief that all Halflings are thieves is stronger here than almost anywhere else in the Empire. In the town of Wördern, there is a tradition when celebrating a child's birthday, to make a straw-man the size of a Halfling, and stuff it with treats and candies that he "stole" from the children. Then, it is hung from a tree while blindfolded children beat it with sticks until it breaks and "gives back" the candy. Locals deny that drunks have occasionally used a real Halfling for this.
  • One of the many Races of Faerun, this race resembles humans at half the size. This will be detailed out more later.
  • Halfling ability adjustments: +2 Dex, -2 Str Favored class (Rogue): A multiclass halfling's rogue class does not count when determining whether he suffers an XP penalty for multiclassing.
  • Halflings are a Dwarf subtype originally from the British Isles.
Tolkien.
  • Halflings are the most diminutive humanoid race, averaging about four feet in height. Like the elves, they tend to live in secluded communities, and are very much in tune with nature. While Halflings lack physical strength and stamina, they are quite dexterous and intelligent, relying on their wits and skill to survive. They are also one of the hairiest races of all, sprouting tufts all over their bodies. * Rogue * Bard * Wizard * Ranger * Monk * Psionic * Priest * Druid * Barbarian * Paladin * Cavalier
  • Halflings have the following racial traits: * +2 Dexterity, –2 Strength. * Small: As a Small creature, a halfling gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but she uses smaller weapons than humans use, and her lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character. * Halfling base land speed is 20 feet. * +2 racial bonus on Climb, Jump, and Move Silently checks. * +1 racial bonus on all saving throws. * +2 morale bonus on saving throws against Fear: This bonus stacks with the halfling’s +1 bonus on saving throws in general. * +1 racial bonus on attack rolls with thrown weapons and slings. * +2 racial bonus on Listen checks. * Automatic Languages: Common and Halfling.
  • Halflings are a race short in numbers as well as size. Those who have not become an integral part of Human society now inhabit an independent pastoral state, which is wholly contained within the Empire and lives under its protection. The Wise Ones being those who are traditionalists, not very adventurous and down-to-earth. Some Curious Ones may call the Wise Ones for Lazy Ones. The Curious Ones on the other hand are non-traditionalists; they tend to travel and go on adventures more, or become traveling merchants. Some halflings, perhaps of a more cynical kind, also sort people into Worried Ones (those who worry too much or are sad and depressed), Broken Ones (crazy or evil ones, something of the worst one can be), and the Other Ones – any
  • Halfling is another name for J. R. R. Tolkien's Hobbit and is a fictional race sometimes found in fantasy novels and games. In many settings, they are similar to humans except about half the size. Dungeons & Dragons began using the name halfling as an alternative to hobbit for legal reasons. Originally, "Halflin" was the Scots word hauflin, pre-dating The Hobbit and Dungeons & Dragons. It meant an awkward rustic teenager, who is neither man nor boy, and so half of both. Another word for halflin is hobbledehoy or hobby. The word halfling was used by Shakespeare to mean a boy-sized man.

  • Halflings are a short hume race about half the height of humans, thus often confused with human children. They have higher body fat ratios and are characterized by their large, furry feet and squarish pointed ears. Other races also remark on the redness of their cheeks regardless of their skin color. Due to the toughness of their feet, they do not wear shoes. Their feet are padded to allow silent treading and they are quite skilled at moving undetected otherwise. They also have an earth sense, connecting to the soil and plants through their feet on the ground. Were a halfling to wear shoes, they would sacrifice their prowling advantage and break their earth connection.

Some fantasy stories use halfling to describe a person born of a human parent and a parent of another race, often a human female and an elf. Terry Brooks describes characters such as Shea Ohmsford from his Shannara series as a halfling of elf-human parentage. This kind of character is elsewhere called a half-elf and is distinct from the common fantasy race known as halflings. In Jack Vance's Lyonesse series of novels, "halfling" is a generic term for beings such as fairies, trolls and ogres, who are composed of both magical and earthly substances.

The origins of Halflings stretch back at least as far as those of Humans, but, now, partly due to their peaceable nature, their numbers are on the decline. Halflings are an overfed and peaceful folk, more concerned with the welfare of their crops and herds and the timing of the next meal than with military pursuits. They are excellent hosts, welcoming and trusting, happy to provide food and shelter to travellers. Nevertheless, they are a determined, even stubborn, race and will defend their homes, livelihoods, and lunch with considerable vigour, even though they are not effective fighters. They may strive manfully to raise a militia in the face of some threat and may show considerable individual courage in defending their homes, but their size and un-warlike nature counts heavily against them. Halfling communities tend to be small villages, nominally headed by an Elder. Elders meet occasionally to discuss common issues over a large banquet, but overall organisation is very loose, with little or no formalised government. Halfling religion and folklore revolves around their lifestyle and their main deities are concerned with fertility and the weather. Their legendary heroes tend to be Halflings who reaped bumper harvests or organised enormous banquets in time of famine, rather than great fighters or explorers. Adventuring is somewhat frowned upon, but some Halflings may travel in human lands, hiring themselves out as cooks and the like. There is something in the nature of Halflings that does not sit well with magic; they are the only civilised race in the Old World that has not created its own forms of sorcery. Halflings do not distrust or fear magic the way that untutored humans do, but they show little interest in it. Some Halflings do become wizards, but, despite the efforts of a small lobby, there are no colleges of magic in the Moot and almost all Halfling wizards have studied under a human master or at one of the colleges in the Empire. One or two have achieved high positions and respect from their human colleagues, but even the most powerful Halfling mages receive little honour from their own kind.

  • A Halfling is a small well rounded being which resembles a Human in many ways. They are a fun people and have many sneaky ways. They have high Dexterity and agility and love to always travel on their hairy feet. The third of the shorter races of Norrath, the hairy footed Halflings are one of the most nimble and mobile races on the planet. They are natural travellers, and many choose to take a nomadic path, visiting all the places of the world on foot. They usually measure about three feet in height and are often thick around their middles. Their lack of height is not to be confused as a weakness though; if confronted or threatened, Halflings are very capable. Very friendly folk, the Halflings enjoy talking and fooling with other people. Many Halflings tend to be tricksters, poking fun at other races and even their friends. The Halflings reside in the town of Rivervale , which is in central Antonica by the Misty Thicket . Halflings get a small, racial experience modifier. The Halfling home city is in Rivervale on Antonica, they have good hiding abilities and infravision for moonlighting.

Like humans, halflings have regional variations in facial features and complexions. They have the same general appearance as humans, except that their physical qualities are all diminutive. Many halfling traditional homelands are no more. Out of tragedy however, the halfling race has become stronger, more unified, and it has earned the respect of other races. Halfling communities are large and frequent along the Sea of Fallen Stars as well and in many human-dominated cities, it is now commonplace to see halflings walking the streets. In this area, a number of halflings have taken to the seas in search of profit and adventure. Exceptions aside, halflings are satisfied by a life filled with farming and commonplace pursuits. The majority are concerned only with the practical necessities of life. The value they place on friendship and community has led halflings to become integral parts of many human and elven societies in Faerûn’s northern reaches.

Because they are so small and agile, Halflings can move much faster than most of the larger races, often getting in two attacks before an opponent can make one. They also have the ability to avoid detection, and can easily find creatures that are attempting to hide. Because of their strong connection with the natural world, Halflings are resistant to all magical attacks. * Rogue * Bard * Wizard * Ranger * Monk * Psionic * Priest * Druid * Barbarian * Paladin * Cavalier
  • Stealthy - Characters who select Halfling as one of their domains receive the Stealthy feat for free.
Halflings have fast metabolisms, despite their typical portliness, and eat six meals a day: breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, dinner, wirt / afternoon bread, supper Life span is 90 on average, but 100 is rather common. The oldest halflings get to about 130. Halflings reach sexual maturity at 33 and marry much in the fashion of their human neighbors.
