They serve one lord for a time but eventually move on travelling the land and protecting the people. The most famous hedge knight of all was Ser Duncan the Tall who travelled Westeros with Egg (Prince Aegon Targaryen later King Aegon V) and later became a part of Aegon's Kingsgaurd and became Lord Commander of the Kingsgaurd.
