(DS9: "Whispers") Several months later, Riker wanted to give Worf a surprise party for his birthday, but Deanna Troi talked him out of it. In a number of alternate quantum realities, however, the party did in fact take place. (TNG: "Parallels" ) For Kes' second birthday in 2371, the USS Voyager crew threw a surprise party for her. They explained the event (Kes found it exhilarating) and instructed her on the Earth tradition of making a wish and blowing out candles. Neelix made a seven layer Jimbalian fudge cake with l'maki nut icing and punch. Tom Paris replicated a locket as a gift. (VOY: "Twisted") When Rom and the employees of Quark's gathered to strike in 2372, Quark mentioned that if they were having a party for him, his birthday was last month. (DS9: "Bar Association") Keiko O'Brien prepared a surprise birthday party for her husband Miles in 2373, but during the party she actually was possessed by a pah-wraith. For the party she prepared q'parol, which was a big success. (DS9: "The Assignment") In 2373, Ensign Ahni Jetal celebrated her birthday on the USS Voyager. (VOY: "Latent Image") Neelix once recounted a happy memory while he and Tuvok were alone in a Jefferies tube, when Voyager's crew held his birthday party in the mess hall. (VOY: "The Haunting of Deck Twelve") In an alternate timeline, the crew of Voyager held Kes' ninth birthday party in the ship's mess hall in 2378. (VOY: "Before and After")

All featured previously recorded material apart from the last: they regarded this as the worst, with Nick Cave declaring that he was "really uninspired that day." [1] In the same interview, Howard added: "When we went in to do that we were just - we had already recorded two of the songs, and we were just going through the motions of recording them again. It's very hard when you are doing a Peel session. You have extremely limited time, so you don't really have the time to approach songs from a new angle. It just has to be basically live, which is the way Sonny's Burning and Deep In The Woods were recorded on the EP. So it just felt dumb because we were just recording them exactly how we had done them before." However, it would appear that most fans disagree with this, opining that the sessions replicated their live performances fairly accurately. [2] Nick's solo live set (TX 11 October 2001), part of a broadcast to honour Peel's purported 40 years on the radio, concluded with this tribute: "I'd just really like to thank, on a personal note, John Peel, who helped the Birthday Party a lot when we arrived here. He was the only one who would go near us: he played us a lot, we did a lot of Peel Sessions with him, and thank you John."
