  • The Scantid is a scorpion-like creature found on certain Terran worlds. Originally growing no more than 15cm, exposure to radioactive fallout from Terran nukes have mutated them into much larger creatures. Normally docile, a scantid is capable of tearing a normal person in half or poisioning large livestock with its many tails. For more information see Scantid on the parent site.

The original strain of the scantid grew to a length no greater than 15 centimeters and was a common inhabitant of the desert regions of Korhal IV. It repelled predators with a mild venom which caused a mild rash and itching. After Korhal was ravaged by nuclear weapons in the surprise attack by the Terran Confederacy, nothing was left alive on the surface of the planet, but scantids survived in underground communal burrows. The massive radiation changed the species forever. The mutated scantid is much larger; its claws are capable of ripping a human in half and its sting is filled with extremely lethal poison. However, scantids are not innately aggressive and generally flee when threatened or injured. Their communal instinct has survived; a large community of them live in an area known as Scorpion Ravine.

Originally, Scantids grew to lengths no greater than 15 centimeters, and were common inhabitants of the deserts of the planet. These repelled their predators with mild venom that caused a mild rash and itching. With the nuclear ravaging of the planet during a surprise attack by the Terran Confederates, nothing was left alive on the surface of the entire world, although Scantids managed to escape certain doom by inadvertently hiding in their underground communal burrows. However, this survival came at a price, and they were not left unscathed. The massive radiation now exhibited on the planet changed their species forever, and they now grew to much larger sizes. Their claws are certainly capable of ripping a human being in half while its stingers are now filled with extremely lethal poison. Luckily, they are not innately aggressive and still tend to flee when threatened or injured, as their minds appear to remain intact, giving the instincts of tiny insectoids to giants. With this, their communal instincts also survived intact, and large communities are scattered across the desert surface, with the most notable one existing in an area which has come to be known as Scorpion Ravine.

Originally growing no more than 15cm, exposure to radioactive fallout from Terran nukes have mutated them into much larger creatures. Normally docile, a scantid is capable of tearing a normal person in half or poisioning large livestock with its many tails. Some fear that they may have been the forerunners of certain Zerg strains, but no evidences has supported these claims. Several aggressive anti-alien groups have formed hunting parties to exterminate the species to "prevent another outbreak." As the main Terran governments possess little information on how the Zerg's origins, they are content to let these groups to hunt as long as it does not endanger civilian lives.
