Cole, along with the rest of squad, expected an ambush from the Locust, but believed they wanted the APC to be fixed before they would try to steal it from the Gears. Noises from around the rubble gave the Gears a good reason to use the guns of the APC and they opened fire on the source of the noise, but it nearly killed a group of Stranded that were “recycling”. As soon as the group of Stranded left, an E-Hole opened up in front of the APC and a Boomer was on top of Cole. Cole did the only thing he could and turned on he chainsaw of his new Lancer, aiming for the crotch, while the APC guns opened fire on the Boomer. After the Boomer was killed, at least three Drones opened fire on Cole and Pvt. Dickson, forcing them to retreat into the now fixed APC. Baird was in the driver's seat and did the best thing he could think of; running over the Drones. After Baird ran over the three Drones, Cole disembarked to check on the Stranded, a single Drone climbed on top of the APC and tried to drop a grenade but failed and killed itself. Cole was able to get out of the APC and found one of the Stranded dead. The APC rolled away from the Live Zone and returned to base to find out that Chief of the COG Defense Staff General Bardry Salaman had committed suicide and Colonel Victor Hoffman had replaced him.
