However, Stark's strong support of the accords lead to a disagreement with his ally Captain America, who opposed the plans. When Rogers then proceeded to further disobey his orders by protecting the Winter Soldier, Stark was forced to lead the man-hunt for his old ally, igniting the Avengers Civil War. Eventually Stark learned that Helmut Zemo had manipulated them all into conflict and rejoined his friend, only to have Zemo reveal that the Winter Soldier was responsible for the murder of his parents, causing Stark to seek revenge and destroy the Avengers in the process, forcing Rogers to go on the run while Stark focused his efforts on aiding Spider-Man's quest to become a hero.

Iron Man has been adapted for several animated TV shows and films. The character is portrayed by Robert Downey, Jr. in the live-action film Iron Man (2008), which was a box office success. Downey reprised the role in the equally successful sequel, Iron Man 2(2010), Marvel's The Avengers (2012), Iron Man 3 (2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), and Captain America: Civil War (2016) and also played him in a cameo in The Incredible Hulk (2008). He will appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) as well as Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

- Doug (vo): It's that time of year again to look at one of the most popular, powerful and most creative companies out there, Disney. But the truth is, Disney has been pretty busy since I started Disneycember, buying up a lot of other very popular and creative properties. Two of the ones that have gotten the most attention are Marvel and Star Wars. Doug (vo): Two universes that Disney has breathed life into unlike anything we've seen before. Marvel now has a gigantic cinematic universe that all connects, and one of the most popular film series of all time has been reborn, making up for what many consider the sins of the past. I had no idea of the backstory, the characters, or anything like that. So it was kind of nice going in with fresh eyes and nothing to really compare it to.
