Viv is bubbling with excitement on the morning of Jean’s birthday but her efforts to spoil her grand daughter go to waste when Zoe pulls the plug on her planned birthday party. Zoe is left high and dry as she tries to manage her staff but ends up without a workforce. She manages to upset both Jack and Scott when neither men take kindly to Zoe throwing her weight around and promptly resign. Drunk and dishevelled Scott returns home to Viv and Bob, who were expecting him to bring Jean back. In a fit of rage, he throws Jean’s birthday cake at the wall angrily insisting the party is over. Later a brooding Scott reflects on his situation, wondering whether Zoe will ever let him be a part of Jean’s life, or whether she was just using him after all. Louise and Ashley no longer see their relationship through rose tinted glasses. The initial novelty has evidently worn off as the couple struggle to find common ground. Diane is still visabily shaken over recent events, despite trying to put a brave face on things.
