  • Actor Tony Monroe (known previously under his real name of Phil Banyard) has appeared on Coronation Street in three roles under the two names: As Phil Banyard he appeared as a Waiter in July 1980 (when Mike Baldwin wined and dined Hilda Ogden after she won a night out with him in a charity competition) and in February 1982 (when buyer Wilf Stockwell took Elsie Tanner out to dinner). As Tony Monroe he appeared in November 1999 as an Unemployed Man in the DSS offices who spoke with Les Battersby regarding his interview letter, and he returned to the programme in the summer of 2003 as conman Arnie Scanlan who had ironically met up with Les Battersby again after the pair had shared a cell together in Strangeways Jail. His other TV and film credits include roles in Boon, Emmerdale, North Square, EastEnders, Heartbeat, Heartlands, Sparkhouse, Flesh and Blood, Clocking Off, Holby City, Fat Friends, The Bill, The Royal and New Street Law. His only other known credit as Phil Banyard is as an unnamed PC in an episode of Juliet Bravo in September 1982.
