He founded and built a theatrical center in the African Congo in 1992. Amiel was cast in The Dark Crystal after Creative Supervisor Sherry Amott spotted him at the London Mime Festival. Amiel used his own contacts to cast many of the other roles for mimes, acrobats and dancers in the film. It was he who discovered one of his mime's talents for stiltwalking and solidified the idea for the Landstrider costume.
