After a particularly violent uprising on Coruscant, the planet was put under martial law by Mezzileen. When the Jedi protested, they were driven to Ossus and the planet soon came under siege by the Republic fleet. Fey'lya, seeing a chance to gain powerful allies, gathered an alliance of rebels to break the blockade and joined with the Jedi in an attempt to topple Mezzileen's government. As the war progressed, Fey'lya traveled to Bothan Space in an attempt to convince the Bothans to change sides. Guarded by the Jedi Master Nin and his apprentice Thame Cerulian, Arf met with his uncle Lar Fey'lya at a secluded tavern on Kothlis. He managed to persuade his uncle to let him speak with the Bothan Council but after Lar left he and the Jedi were attacked by soldiers loyal to Vy Huro, head of the Council and a political ally of Signet Mezzileen. Arf was convinced that his uncle had betrayed him and he and the Jedi broke into Lar's palace and he confronted his uncle. Ignoring Lar's protestations of innocence, Arf attempted to strangle his uncle and was only prevented from killing him by Nin. Arf was persuaded to listen to his uncle and agreed to meet with the Bothan Council by Lar's private tunnel, on the condition that Lar accompanied them. The group traveled to Bothawui and headed down the tunnel but were attacked by a group of assassins that were waiting for them. Arf was injured in the skirmish and while the Jedi were busy dealing with the assassins, Lar was killed while trying to defend Arf's body. The Jedi captured the leader of the assassins, who was none other than Arf's cousin Bard. Bard confessed that he had allied with Hu'ro to stop Arf meeting with the Bothan Council in return for having his support in replacing his father as head of the Fey'lya clan. Arf and the Jedi lead Bard to the Council chambers where he confessed everything to them to the Councilors, who immediately threw Hu'ro off the Council. However, Hu'ro called in Republic troops to murder the Councilors and it was only due to Arf and the Jedi that they were able to escape down Lar's tunnel, although Hu'ro and Bard escaped in the confusion. The group fled to Kothlis, where Arf took on his role as head of the Fey'lya clan and prepared to defend the planet against Hu'ro armada. Hu'ro's fleet quickly attacked the planet, but with the arrival of Coalition reinforcements they were defeated. Hu'ro fled Bothawui with his remaining supporters and Fey'lya was elected as head of the Council and quickly allied Bothan Space with the Coalition.
