  • Sequel - kontynuacja jakiegoś dzieła (np. filmu) opowiadająca o wydarzeniach późniejszych niż te z pierwszej części. Film opowiadający o wydarzeniach sprzed pierwszej części (ale wyprodukowany później) to prequel.
  • Sequel - continuation of film, moive presenting next events in the same history.
  • A sequel was a work of fiction that continued where a previous work left off. In 1893, Mark Twain was asked by a reporter if his next work would be a sequel to A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. (TNG: "Time's Arrow, Part II" ) In 1953, Douglas Pabst complained that Benny Russell, instead of writing the novella he asked for, had returned with "six sequels to a story I refused to publish in the first place". (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars") In 1996, Tom Paris asked Rain Robinson if she had ever seen the sequel to Orgy of the Walking Dead, Bride of the Corpse. (VOY: "Future's End")
  • Sequels are more complex versions of a course. The sequel and the prequel have the same music, and have a similar layout, obviously because of the complexity and difficulty. Normally, a shortcut in a prequel will appear similarly in the sequel. An example is Boo Lake and Broken Pier. Boo Lake has a barely glowing bridge and another bridge that's clearly visible and shaves about a second, and Broken Pier has two barely glowing bridges and another bridge that shaves off a little more than a second, and because Broken Pier is more difficult and complex, the bridges are longer and narrower.
  • In many cases, the sequel continues elements of the original story, often with the same characters and settings. A sequel can lead to a series, in which key elements appear in a number of stories. Although the difference between more than one sequel and a series is somewhat arbitrary, it is clear that some media franchises have enough sequels to become a series, whether originally planned as such or not.

Sequels are attractive to creators and to publishers because there is less risk involved in returning to a story with known popularity rather than developing new and untested characters and settings. Audiences are sometimes eager for more stories about popular characters or settings, making the production of sequels financially appealing. In movies, sequels are common. There are many name formats for sequels. Usually, they either have unrelated titles, such as The Jewel of the Nile, the sequel to Romancing the Stone, or the same title as the original, but with a number added, as in Lethal Weapon 2, sequel to Lethal Weapon. Sometimes such titles have subtitles as well (e.g. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York). It is also common for a sequel to have a variation of the original title (such as Men of Boys Town, sequel to Boys Town). In the 1930s, many musical sequels had the year included in the title (Gold Diggers of 1933), in the style of Broadway revues such as the Ziegfeld Follies.
